^^
yes! and you still get the 5% off. And they often have online codes for extra off.
Yes, the red card is a “no brainer” – 5% off all purchases (in store or online) and free shipping online. Another reason to love Target.
More thoughts on stores:
Always do well with gifts and bridal registries from Crate & Barrel as well as Williams Sonoma, Amazon and Bed, Bath and it is nice to go to the wedding registry in person at Macy’s 34th Street. Staff very helpful and gift wrap is included. No problems when ordering from their registry either.
We used to have a local small Bed Bath before they added Beyond and relocated to a shopping center and now it is so overwhelming filled with “stuff” you cannot find the bed & bath… try to not go there except that they take coupons you received 10 years ago…
Worst recent shopping experience… Toys R’Us … hadn’t been in years and went to buy a 2 year old birthday present. Planned to buy a riding toy… place was dirty, disorganized, shelves a total mess, really hard to find any prices, it was freezing cold in there as heat was either turned very low or non-existent… that was my last visit.
Not such a fan of buying baby gifts in person at Buy, Buy Baby but no problem with the online registry gifts. Favorite baby gift places are Land of Nod and Crewcuts (J Crew).
Shopping at IKEA another experience you have to really get prepared for… really only go there to help my kids buy stuff for their apartments. Have a plan…just endless walking…
We are pretty much done furnishing our house and only go to IKEA when we run out of lingonberry jam. Since we are low-carbing, those buckets of jam last us forever!
A lot of dissing of Barnes & Noble for its return policy, but Amazon has a fairly ungenerous return policy as well, as I found out trying to return a pair of shoes I bought for my daughter “too early” for her birthday.
Madewell also has a stingy return policy.
Kudos to LL Bean for their customer service and their gold standard return policy.
Next time I’m in Norwalk I’ll have to check out Consolation’s stores!
bookmama22, I am right there with you. I hate, hate, hate Toys R Us. Very unorganized store, no help, and yes, I think it is rather dirty. I am a Target fan and unlike most people here, I have no problem with Kohls; but then I don’t like paying a lot for clothes. I dislike stores with coupons that exclude most everything.
I’ve never looked at Kohl’s clothing. I have bought some housewares there, including some really gorgeous hand painted pottery items–square dishes with matching bowls that are great for serving things like exotic dips and vegetable–that look like they are from Portugal.
Isn’t funny how stores evolve? When my twenty-somethings were small, ToysRUs (and Kids R Us for clothes) were THE places to shop for toys, etc. Now the parking lot sits empty (comparatively).
^Instead of going to Toys-R-Us to buy toys, people get them cheaper at world’s largest retailer Walmart today?
@mathmom, Patel’s, ShopRite, and Costco are all quite close to one another on Rte 1. That particular ShopRite has a fantastic produce section, and extensive ethnic foods, especially Latin stuff, which is fun if, like me, you make your own chili powder and so forth. They also have periodic sales on RedPack canned tomatoes, which are the best, bar none.
Some of my favorite items from Patels, in addition to the extremely well-priced bulk dals and beans and spices, are the bags of Haldirams Chana Jor Garam and the frozen tropical fruit purees, especially passion fruit. Believe me, a Passionfruit Curd Tart is a thing of wonder. They also have fresh curry leaves for $1 a bag, which cost $2.50 per bag up here. If you throw them in the freezer they freeze-dry, and are still great.
And right in the same little area is the Cook Nook, which has a great array of cooking stuff.
I’ve always hated Toys R Us: camo aisles for boys and florescent pick and lavender aisles for girls. Lots of cheap plastic crap. I don’t think I’ve ever actually bought anything at one.
Toys R Us gives me the heebie jeebies. I think I’ve bought Lego’s there. I usually used the local toy store though. The guys who ran it just retired.
Patel’s was the one that caught my eye. I’ve got a couple of more trips to this particular job. It might make the driving seem less annoying. I’ve got one contractor that keeps dragging me out to CT.
Our local TJ Maxx is the place to go for All Clad, RL polos, and designer perfume. Some others are not so great (I think the wealthier the area, the worse the selection because stuff sells out fast).
Anyway, I was going to complain about their shoes, but I just saw a bunch of Munros in there.
Adding a love it store (actually online). Emma Stine Jewelry. I ordered a pair of the sweetest starfish earrings for my sister.
Aren’t these cute? http://www.emmastine.com
Like: Costco, Wegmans, TJs, LLBean, Zappos, MaryJo’s Cloth Store (Gastonia, NC), Russ & Daughters (NYC), ShopRite, local quilt shops, Lowes
Tolerate: Walmart, Kohl’s, JoAnn Fabrics, Home Depot
Dislike: Target, TJ Maxx, Ross, Hobby Lobby, mall stores (including the anchors)
I have really cut down on shopping. I don’t have much patience for it these days.
Hard not to like Florida’s Publix grocery stores: “Where Shopping is a Pleasure.”
Yep,
Ne ER been in a Publix that wasn’t clean and well stocked. Staff helpful always.
Lik Fred Meyer with senior discounts. ( you only have to be 55) Even if I often have to go back to get it, because I don’t remember & the clerks don’t ask.
Then I used points earned at Fred Meyer, to get $.40 off per gallon at Shell, yesterday!
Like: Nordstrom (purchase online; return to store) and Trader Joe’s ($1.79 for cauliflower!)
Dislike: Many Marshalls, Kohl’s, Macy’s, and other chains – too messy/jumbled. Selection can really vary from place to place. For some, it’s really made me wonder what the buyers were thinking, that women WANT to look frumpy, dumpy, and otherwise ugly?!?
“Trader Joe’s ($1.79 for cauliflower!)”
For a big, solid HEAD of cauliflower, not for a pound or some cut-up pieces.
Paid my TJMaxx a visit today to get another pet bed for my cats who could not peacefully share 4 of them per their 3 whiskered heads. AKC fluffy pads for $7 rock. Hard to pry my cats off them.
