Stress and Anxiety Dreams

Dreams that I’m out in public and don’t have clothes or a top on.

Dreams that my legs are caught underneath me so I can’t brake and stop my car.

Dreams where I can’t find a private potty…toilets are in the middle of a public place.

Dreams where one side of my car is literally hanging off a cliff but doesn’t fall.

Dreams where my mom is alive, and she’s about 60 and she’s just had a new baby.

Dreams where I can’t run or make my legs walk correctly…or I can’t scream …or I can’t dial 911 or dial any needed number.

Dreams where I’m stuck in the back seat, but need to get to the front to control the car.

Dreams where for some unknown reason, I’m back in school, but I’m as old as I am now…kind of a do-over? But, then I find out that I forgot to attend a class, and now final exam time is here.

For some reason, my children are rarely in my dreams. That seems odd.

Dreams where my home has “hidden rooms” or extra rooms or an extra kitchen or extra washers and dryers. In one dream that I’ve had a few times, there is a whole extra wing of rooms that no one uses. And, in another, I have to crawl thru the attic to get to more hidden rooms.

Also…dreams where I can’t find my way back home.

I think many have the dream where you can’t get where you want to go because of various interferences.

When I was younger, I’d have these horrible “chase dreams” where I was scared that someone was chasing me, and I would try to lock my doors, but couldn’t get to them in time…and I’d try to hide.

Dreams where I can’t see well…everything is foggy.

Apparently, I was far from the only person to have a dream with President Obama in it at the time of one of the elections.

  1. Realizing I forgot to attend a class in college.
  2. Being naked in public.
  3. Walking out and about without shoes.

Does anyone dream that their young adult, living-away-from-home kids are calling out to them in desperation for help? This has happened a couple times and has been so vivid I woke up, checked the clock and was certain that some dire event had happened to dear child at that time. So far, no kid has never experienced anything alarming in reality. I figure the dreams must be my anxiety and inability to disconnect from being needed!

Actually, that one almost always makes these threads, and appeared in a post before yours.

@bookworm, so you wouldn’t be interested in driving over this one?

Mh DH tricked me into going over this one. I thought I was going to go into a lethal heart arrhythmia. Mine isn’t a fear of bridges so much as a fear of heights.

I also forgot this one - being near a plane falling from the sky.

I often dream about being on escalators that are going up…to nowhere. Lots of dreams where I’m trying to catch a flight and don’t make it, and something happens to everyone else who was headed in the same direction. Seems like I am always one lucky step from avoiding disaster.

Am also in dreams where I am the same age as my kids (but have all the knowledge and life experiences of my current age) and their friends (and my kids and their friends show up in the dreams). Also lots of dreams with college BF, only this time I am far wiser.

Wow…forgot about that one. It’s been awhile, but I’ve had that one a few times.

Upthread I wrote that my kids aren’t in my dreams. I guess the “power of suggestion” is real because last night I did dream about my kids.

I am really interested in the bathroom, teeth, and extra rooms dreams. I have never had any of those.

Nrdsb4, that bridge looks terrifying, though I’m normally not freaked out by the prospect of crossing bridges. But I do have a deathly fear of heights. When my D was a student at Bryn Mawr, I used to have to drive across an extremely tall bridge (with two lanes going in each direction over some type of water gorge) whenever I picked her up from, or took her back to school. I always drove on the inside lanes because the outer ones caused me way too much anxiety. Strangely enough, I don’t recall ever dreaming of driving, or falling off bridges, or even falling from great heights of any sort.

Funny, how so many of have the unprepared-to-take-an-exam-in-class-we-didn’t remember-being-enrolled-in Dream, the naked-in-public dream, and the Trying-drive-from-the-backseat drive. I have had a dream of being struck by lightning while trapped outside during a violent thunder storm on several occasions. They are always so vivid that I always wake up convinced something terrible is about to happen, but nothing ever does.

@poetsheart, it was terrifying. It seemed really “rickety,” though I’m sure it’s inspected for safety, etc.

The only good thing about it is that it is a relatively short crossing.

I have had the looking for a bathroom, any bathroom, no matter the condition, dreams but that has frequently been a real life experience for me. Once during pregnancy, on a harrowing drive through the Italian alps, there were no bathrooms and that really impacted my dream life going forward.

I used to dream a lot about going off bridges. As a result I kept a hammer under my car seat so I could break a window and get everyone out if it happened in real life. Now my kids are grown, I don’t dream that anymore and didn’t bother with a hammer in my new car.

I have never had a naked in public dream. Is there something wrong with me?

Movemetoo, lucky for you! They’re pretty anxiety producing. I also periodically dream that I’m having a bowel movement in a public toilet that is strangely wide open to the public—like in the middle of a crowded mall or street. I hates those. :frowning:

NRDS, I could barely look at that bridge! My male friend offered to drive with me tonight to the airport to pick up my son. I feel so fortunate, as facing the overpass at night scares me worse than in daylight.

I guess I’m also afraid of heights. I recall being in New Mexico, and we were climbing the steps of a Native American village. Part way up, I decided to stop. My view was fine, and I had no need to prove anything.

I always wished I could know when my son needed me. Once in elementary school, the awful Rabbi/principal punished him by making him miss all classes for the day, and sit in front office 5+ hours. The humiliation was deep, as every parent and teacher saw him sitting in this spot. By 2:00 pm, the secretary called me because my son was so upset.

This is so interesting to me how many common dreams that we are experiencing! I would be intrigued to know how many are cultural, and how many are part of all human experience.

Those who dream of using a toilet in public may be interested in this: http://www.nbcnews.com/id/4326340/ns/world_news-weird_news/t/new-way-view-london-toilet/#.VnTZZb_5G9E

That’s just creepy.
