Student says Harvard is wrongly linking her to campus murder

Here is a new story on former Harvard student Brittany Smith:

I think that now, in retrospect, you all know why you aren’t (or weren’t) very smart. Harvard would not have gone to such lengths without substantiated evidence. I watched the progress of this thread from the very beginning (admittedly, I thought the case would be resolved in a month or two), but soon forgot about it. I’m so glad it’s back. They obviously never would have gone so far as to bar her from graduation and kick her off campus without her being a hefty burden on the university.

Oh… and lol about the story claiming that she fled to Italy. I think I’d like to meet her.

People in this thread seem to be a bit confused/misinformed. There are two women involved, Brittany Smith and Chanequa Campbell. This thread was initially about Chanequa: she was the first of the two to be kicked out of school, and she was the one who spoke to the press and said she was wrongly accused, etc. I’m not sure whether she ever received her degree, but she wasn’t indicted for anything at the time and still hasn’t been. She’s the one who had plans to go work in Italy after graduation.

Brittany Smith is the one who has been indicted for having assisted the killers. She was kicked out of school a few days after Chanequa, but thus far hasn’t said much (if anything) to the media, nor has she fled to Italy or anywhere else as far as I know. I think she’s out on bail, presumably waiting for the trial.

Just clearing that up for people who are interested.

Well guys,
It seems that Harvard had a very good reason to kick Ms. Campbell out of their institution:

What an awful waste. These young women had it made, and now all that hard work is down the drain.

I can’t help thinking about the applicants in their high school year who didn’t get the opportunity to go to Harvard. Maybe I make too much of it, but as someone who was rejected twice, I was acutely aware that my getting a seat in the transfer class meant 19 hopefuls were denied. I believe that those who get in have a responsibility to the rejectees, as well as ourselves, our families, and the institution, not to waste that gift.

Hi Hanna,
You’re right. It’s a shame that these ladies got involved with the wrong crowd. A crowd that they should not have allowed to conduct business at Harvard. You would think that they would know better. Especially the consequences. Was it really worth it? I am sure that it the murder hadn’t occurred on campus, the girls would have received their Harvard AB degrees as members of the Class of 2009. Such a waste indeed.

Does anyone else have an opinion on the links I have gathered? Quite an interesting story. Too bad the girls involved got what they deserved. Shouldn’t have let a drug dealer conduct business on campus.

Let’s have some comments here. It gets lonely posting comments by myself.

Oh come on guys, I am sure you got something to say about this article. It certainly appears the both girls showed poor judgment. Imagine how things might have turned out for each of them if the drug dealer in question was not murdered on Harvard’s property?

The story has passed, the truth has been revealed, the legal system is doling out the just punishments. It is a bit late for rehashing the crime.
