I can understand carrying a weapon- particulary in a very urban area like Boston- & some laundry rooms are even a little spooky, but to actually stab someone that isn’t physically threatening you- is a way over the top
and what is a pocket knife?
Is that a swiss army knife or a switchblade?

A pocket knife is not generally a weapon, and millions of folks carry one everywhere they go. A switchblade is just a folding knife with a spring that opens the blade. The important factors are how long the blade is, and what you do with it. My Leatherman has a 3-inch blade, and would make a great skin-piercer, except that I would never use it that way. It is just as “dangerous” as a switchblade.

The presence of the pocket knife isn’t the issue here. The two women were in a fistfight, and the one with the knife would probably have been just as happy to hit the other woman in the head with a wine bottle.

Now, this next comment is joking about a serious situation: I always knew LACs were dangerous places…

The normal procedure in this kind of a case would be an immediate suspension to get the person off campus. The college judicial proceeding to determine the ultimate outcome would come later. In a case involving an arrest, the college disciplinary hearings and determinations would typically be put on hold pending the outcome of the criminal matter. That’s why there is an immediate suspension in the meantime.
