I haven’t paid much attention to what DUK boats are, although if they’re military based, I wouldn’t think they’d be all that safe to have out on a regular highway. I would guess that the speeds (and service) that they’re built for aren’t compatible with modern roads and speeds, not to mention maneuverability.
Wow, I never realized those things drove on the Aurora bridge! I get white-knuckles driving it in a safe modern vehicle.
Tell the truth, this whole thing is so sad, and so close to home, that I can’t even listen to news about it. I just change the channel. It is just awful.
We were in Washington recently and saw the Duck tours going by. I pointed one out to my DH driving down the road with seaweed dangling from the bottom. It just looked so run down and unsafe. I said how dangerous and rickety those things look and wondered why so many people still go on them. That was a few days before the latest crash.
Yes, those Ducks boats look like they are being held together by that seaweed! They rattle and squeak as they roll down the streets… Plus, the driver has to make jokes and talk almost constantly?
And quack, apparently. The driver has to be driver, tour guide, and entertainer. You couldn’t have paid me to take a Duck tour, even before this latest accident.
