Clay, definitely does not mean that! The fact is, that you were good enough to get in, but they simply cannot place everyone who is good enough to get in…into CAP…not enough room. And this is true of most BFA in MT Programs…they turn away some kids who are just as talented as the ones they took as there is not enough room. That is not true of every applicant but of some. And you did get into Tisch. Many very talented MT kids are in the acting studios at Tisch. I cannot emphasize this enough. For example…my D was in the Mainstage Musical last year, playing one of the leads. While she was in CAP when cast, she was in ETW when the show rehearsed and was performed. Many of the leads in that show were NOT from CAP21. She was in a musical at Strasberg, and has been involved in GAP musicals and also Playwrights Horizons musicals and Tisch Graduate Musical Theater Writing musuicals and many MT actors in these shows (includnig leads) were from all different studios, including CAP but definitely not limited to CAP. She was one of the fifteen selected for the Tisch MT showcase that I recently saw and many in that showcase were not from CAP21 (and they only took 15 musical theater kids from all of Tisch and CAP kids were eligible to audition as well). Also, my D has been in the NYU N’Harmonics for four years, and is musical director. It is very hard to get into this group. It is an award winning group, including last year they were the Northeast Champions and third in the International Championships at Lincoln Center. The singers in this group are excellent. Many have gone onto Broadway. Many are NOT from CAP21 but were placed in other studios when they got into Tisch. They certainly were not placed in other studios because they were “bad singers.”
