Studio Placements

I’ve been a quiet reader of CC for quite some time, and I really feel like I should add my opinion here. My son is a freshman at Tisch - extremely happy - and was placed in Strasberg. He loves the intense training he gets there, but you need to be realistic if dance and vocal training are priorities for you. Your days are very full. Classes, studio days, writing assignments, and many hours choosing scenes, researching scenes, and rehearsing them with scene partners. That doesn’t leave much time for subway rides and dance classes at BDC or vocal training. It doesn’t mean you can’t do it! It’s just difficult, and yes expensive. So be very careful as you make this decision… Try to get different opinions from the students if you can visit. NO school is perfect - ask what they DON’T like as well as the many positives. Don’t forget to ask about the social life as well. Living in NYC is wonderful and has so very many opportunities available. But…will you be comfortable in a big city? Will you miss a “campus”? NYU is EXTREMELY liberal. Are you O.K. with that? Same goes for any other school you’re looking at. This is a very personal decision. Listen to everything and everyone, but know it’s your own opinion and feelings that matter most. Good luck to all of you as you make this decision, and just keep an open mind as you go through the process. Listen to your heart and wherever you end up it’s going to be a wonderful journey!!
