Little red sportscar convertibles didn’t occur to me: I started buying hybrids when I hit my nearing-50 mid-life point. I think I’m a thinly-veiled geek.

If midlife crises involve buying a new car, whether a little red sportscar convertible or a hybrid, I can’t afford to have one!

I know one man who dealt with his by divorcing his wife (who got to keep the four-wheel drive) and bought himself a little red convertible. He drove cross-country with it and had to ship all his belongings because he could not fit them into the car.

Look to the left.

uh yeah, tsdad. I’d say so.

No, no, DH didn’t paint our house! No, he’s an architect and he had a small retail center painted with that psychedelic business. A viable commerical business. A client actually paid him to design it! (But wears sunglasses when he visits the space.

Last year, a nearly fifty friend of a friend went to a party and “looked across the room and found the eyes of her soulmate”. She divorced H in minutes flat. He is in tatters.

Still gobsmacked over that one. Old people are looking around the room for soulmates? At parties? I have simply GOT to get with the program!

I admit I am still in love/lust with my husband- but we do not get to spend nearly enough time together- my idea of quality time is going far away so that we aren’t staring at all the well intended projects that we ran out of money/steam for, but his idea of quality time is “fixing” things that don’t necessarily need fixing but they sure do afterwards.
However I am rethinking “cosmetic surgery”, I am not quite at the place where I could use it- but I am at the place where I can see that at some point it could be useful
So that is my idea of a midlife crisis- I guess- I try not to dress like I am 20 but I wouldn’t mind looking like I am 30.
Specially if I am going to have to find me a “trophy” husband at some point.
I was flabbergasted when I found out that Naveen Andrews- who I was vaguely creeped out over lusting after in the English Patient when I thought he was much younger than he is ( he is 36), but when I found out how old his live in partner was my jaw dropped- and stayed that way.
(57 year old Barbara Hershey- who apparently is trying to keep up with Melanie Griffith for numbers of surgeries)

But hey! people under 50 ARE NOT OLD!
my husband and I just went out last weekend to a night club to hear a rock band! and we stayed up till 1:30! AM! ![]()
( ok we did bring earplugs but given our misspent youth it is like locking the barn door after the horse is stolen)

My mid-life crisis was well after fifty - oops giving away my age here lol - after the youngest got her liscense -literally the day after lol. It is my pride and joy - and I enjoy every day that i get to use it - my family thinks I am nuts - well…cuz these days I just seem to hop in and go when I want to and where I want to - and my DD followed in my foot steps yet again a year ago when she needed new wheels.

My toy?? An amythest colored Jeep Wrangler - hard top and sun roof soft top - or no top - depends on my mood - I just LOVE it!! Get alot of pretty funny looks these days too - ooo well…hahaha - but is MY turn now.

It really is true about the jeep wave - whenever you pass another Wrangler - they wave at ya - it is sooooo cool.

"An amythest colored Jeep Wrangler "

Wranglers remind me of the Caribbean…v e r y COOL JeepMOM. In New England, no less! You’re brave :)

Hey - my time came after about 9 years of driving 2 red mini-van’s into the ground - no…actually totally under ground - to the tune of 275+++ thou miles per van - 1 for each kiddo lol. So believe me - when my freedom day came - I walked - no actually ran to the car lot and bought my well deserved dream car lol. My kiddos were soooooo jealous - they could not believe I did that…1 for MOM…talk about mid life crisus lol…FREEDOM FROM BEING MINI VAN MOM!!!

I am laughing when reading about the two seater red sports car convertibles…
My husband, who happens to be 50, must have “peaked” early with this mid life crisis thing cause he has had that very car for about ten years now. Crazy but that is the car that gets to stay in the garage and the one he drives all winter is outside and must be dug out of the snow and scraped for ice each day.

Men and their cars…I could tell you stories. It did not seem to coordinate with mid-life crisis in our house.
Susan

I had a mini van- which actually was pretty nice for 12 years- but the last 3 years at least we had put way more money into it than it was worth-
so my dh bought a jeep liberty- didn’t have a moon roof- didn’t have electronic console- plus it is a little too cutesy for my taste- but it was nice to have 4 wheel drive when the girls went driving on the beach and it was a little too soft.
It isn’t amethyst it is salsa red- and it also isn’t a stick- its an automatic ( can you believe the dealer said we would have to special order a stick shift- for a JEEP!)
but I am getting used to it- I really wanted a subaru- but I guess this will do till the kids are out of the house

I hear you jeepmom, the day my youngest leaves is the day I turn in the Volvo, never to drive a mom car again!

Emerald…we got that same car a few days ago to replace the car my youngest child totalled on the interstate a month ago. It has not been driven yet but next thing is to put the college decals on it ;-). The car it replaced WAS red but this one is not but had no choice cause it was a “deal”.

Every party I go to I “look across the room and find the eyes of my soulmate” … follow her around like a lost puppy.

Got my 2 seater convertible sports car a few years ago, but it’s not “little”, it’s big! (and it’s blue, not red) I even take it to the dragstrip once in a while. :)

LOL NJ. You’re a worry…

My H and S have been building the cute little red sports car for the last four years. Current plan is to get it running this summer.

I, OTOH, went out and bought myself a Mazda Miata last summer (which I’m kind enough to share with the kids). Tired of waiting. Yesterday I put the dog in it too, with her special seatbelt harness so she could go in it with me when the top’s down.

The sports car has to be red, does it? Except for Jeep mom?

HAHAHA Cheers - actually RED is my favorite color - but could not pass up my somewhat unusual amythyst JEEP lol - and from what I am told - it suites me - all the kids have red or black ones lol - tho my DD has an aqua one - we not be boring - we be colorful!!!

And sports car - ppffttt - can’t take that just anywhere lol - but I sure can :)

Midlife crisis is when you go to your dermatologist for a mole check, and walk out with a brochure for “facial enhancement procedures”!

Not to mention, an Rx for Fosomax and appointments for a bone density scan and a colonoscopy.

Now I know why I want to trade in my Saturn station wagon for a Mini-Cooper, even though my husband is campaigning for a Prius, the more rational choice. It’s because I’m having my mid-life crisis!
