I have a good one, I think.

When I first started CC, I got a 3.4 during my first semester. Things were going well for a couple semesters…

After my best friend committed suicide I pretty much lost all motivation and failed an entire semester. My overall GPA plummeted to a dismal 1.7. Two years, two majors, and several mediocre grades later, my GPA crawled up to a 2.4 or so. This was when I decided I needed to visit a counselor. They basically told me there was no chance of getting into a UC and I should concentrate on CSU instead. This was last summer. I decided I was going to do my best and prove them wrong.

I got straight A’s, used academic renewal to erase that horrible semester that caused all my problems, and I’m currently at a 3.06. This may not seem impressive, but by the time I transfer I’ll have 79 units and a 3.25 grade point average.

So far I’ve been accepted to UCI and UCSC, and waiting on Davis, Cal, and LA. But I’m perfectly content with transferring to either Irvine or Santa Cruz.

Hope that boosts your spirits somewhat. If you screw up early on, it is definitely possible to turn things around and get accepted to some good schools. Good luck.
