Suggestions for a road trip across America

I will also cast my vote for O as my favorite Cirque show.

Some other fun, non Cirque shows - Blue Man Group, Jersey Boys, Terry Fator, Penn and Teller, Human Nature, Lion King.

If you want to be overwhelmed by the possibilities, check out Vegas.com/shows. They also list the limited time engagement shows so you can see what will be here on your travel dates.

If you’re firm on your travel dates and what you want to see, go ahead and book your tickets in advance. You’ll get better seats if you don’t wait till the last minute. Even in the summer the shows can be quite full, especially on the weekends. If you book directly with the box office (instead of a ticket broker), you should be able to pick up your tickets at the will call window and avoid any delivery charge.

If you’re a foodie, we also have many terrific fine dining restaurants.

I hope you have a great trip!

“Do you need to book tickets in advance?”

I saw O in Fall 2004 and I booked in advance. Tickets were about $125 each. Maybe a little more. Enjoy!

Hope you’re not leaving until it cools off a bit!

we’re leaving in August which is probably still very hot but hopefully the heat wave will be gone and it’s cooler.

Hi everyone, I’ve just completed my trip and took the flight back. It was amazing and I visited a lot of places mentioned above. I’m so tired now but It was a great experience and I’d love to share.

Here are the places I visited in the two-week trip across the country:

Nashville, TN: We only spent couple of hours here. We went to see the Parthenon. It’s in the middle of a park so it wasn’t very crowded. We walked around downtown, the street with lots of souvenir shops, visited the Batman building.

Memphis, TN: Went to Mud Island, Graceland, Beale street. The only crowded place is Beale street at night. Every other place in Memphis that I went to was like a ghost town (maybe it’s too hot so people go to other places in the summer?). We ate at Rendezvous restaurant, it’s quite famous and definitely is one of the best bbq I’ve tried.

Little Rock, AR: Went to visit the Clinton library, the flea market and Little Rock Central High.

Hot Springs, AR: Walked around the different bathhouses. We went to one I think it was Buckstaff. The service was good, the mineral bath was good but I thought it would be more natural like a hot spring on the mountain. Apparently those don’t exist anymore. You can only access these mineral bath via bathhouses.

Oklahoma City, OK: We visited the Ok bombing memorial at night. I was surprise that everything around the city was closed at around 10pm. We couldn’t find anything to eat at that time. Maybe we were at the wrong part of the city.

Albuquerque, NM: I like the view from OK city to ABQ. We stopped at several places to take pictures. We walked around downtown and near the NMU campus but it was early. I would like to visit Sandia tramway but didn’t have the chance.

Arizona: Meteor Crater was a good place. We also visited Petrified Forest but only drove around in our car because it was too hot. Visited the Grand Canyon South Rim. This is the second time I visited the Grand Canyon but we went to a different observation point so the view is a little different.

Las Vegas, NV: We visited Hoover dam around sunset I think it was 8:30 or 9pm. We stepped out to take photos but were asked to go back in the car and kept driving because it’s dark. I think you’re not supposed to stop when it’s dark, didn’t know this. We stayed at the Bellagio and Wynn in Las Vegas. They are really nice and convenient to walk around the strip (and expensive). I didn’t see “O” because they don’t show it on Tuesday so we bought ticket to KA. It’s another Cirque du Soleil show at MGM Grand. I really enjoyed it and I think it’s worth the $100 admission price.

Los Angeles, CA: Universal Studio, Hollywood boulevard, Newport beach and Orange county.

San Francisco, CA: There are lots of things to do and places to see in SF. We went to Lombard Street, Fisherman’s Wharf, Chinatown, financial district, Coit Tower, Golden Gate Bridge, Sausalito, Japanese Garden in Golden Gate Park, the Exploratorium (my favorite place for kids).

I’m writing from memory so I might have missed some places. Overall it was a great trip, great experience, met some interesting people and I learned lots of things along the way. I’m trying to sort out about 10GB of photos from my camera.
