Thank you everyone for sharing your suggestions and for your advice. Keep them coming! I can’t wait to share this with my niece.

Yep Hops_Scout, I’ve got the same one and started with the same intentions as you. Tried it, like it and may upgrade to one of the big boys down the road.

Curious about why doesn’t she want an ipad? (Writing this on my ipad.)

I’ll admit it, I’m a fanboy.

I have a MAC and look forward to getting an IPad. I am not computer savvy. She has a computer that is cloud based and wants to integrate the notebook with outlook, etc. Can she do this with an IPad?

Yes you can. Google “run Office on ipad,” and you get stuff like this:

Also, I have an inexpensive app that allows me to see and use my desktop/laptop PCs from my ipad or iPhone from wherever I am – either from wifi or cellular network(although you can do this from android, too):

To be fair, the most tightly integrated tablet with Office is the new Surface Pro. It’s essentially a full windows 8 computer in tablet form, but it’s as expensive as a laptop.

I have a Google Nexus 10, have had it for two weeks now.
Email, web surfing, NYT digital subscription, Pinterest, Facebook, a Kindle App allows me to download books through our state/town library system at no charge with my town library card and Amazon user id and password. I doubt I will ever pay for digital book download, there are so many to choose.

It does have a camera which allows me to take photos and put on Facebook very quickly.
I probably will not do any Microsoft Word or Excel on my tablet, I do that on my laptop, as I usually print documents. I also can speak my words and they get typed into emails. While typing suggested words appear above the keyboard so you usually don’t have to type the whole word!!

I have the Google nexus Seven with a keyboard case which is perfect for taking notes. Got the 32 GB version and the case for about 300 I think… It was a gift

Sent from my DROID BIONIC using CC

Just got an email from Groupon Goods…the Galaxy Tab 2 is 40% off (so it’s 149.99) for the next two days or so. It looks like 690 have been sold so far, and quantities are limited…

Samsung, asus, or google nexus(made by asus). Read about them here…cnet.com

Thank you, all. I am forwarding all of your advice and suggestions.
