Suggestions for solo travel

Me too!

 I think she would be crazy, too. I suggested all the things I thought she’d like, put an emphasis upon “everything will be stress free”, said I’d fly to her home to get her and travel with her, zero cost and anything she wants to do. Business class flights make international travel painless. It’s not like I have tons of money, but I’ve been saving for this, I can get free upgrades, and I always find good deals.

At first she sounded excited and said she’d get her passport right away, and now I fear it’s sliding away. No passport, no talk of it anymore. So I’m just not getting my hopes up, I’d rather her cancel early than last minute. I already have a list of reasons for this not happening over the last several years.

But I feel like I really want to do something, that is, if the good news comes through for my H.

What a generous offer, busdriver! May I suggest a CC sister instead, as you have a few volunteers. I’d volunteer as well. Sympathies, though, as bonding time can be hard to find with siblings.

Yes, it can be hard to get enough time with siblings, especially if you live thousands of miles away. We have been able to follow each other a few times, moving our families across the country together, but now it seems we’re both permanently planted. :frowning:

I’ll bet I’d have lots of cc sisters to join me if I paid for the trip…even if they couldn’t stand my posts.

There are many very nice people on this forum, though I’ve only met a few.

I also have a hard time getting my closest friends or my sister to agree to anything definite in the future. Some people just do not like to travel and/or are scared of international travel. I bet if you said… Let’s go to New York, somehow that would be OK but Italy is not OK. Go figure

Yeah, that could be. I was figuring since my sister had lived in Germany for three years that she’d be comfortable with it, but time passes and that was a long time ago.

I have a hard time setting up events with my siblings too—have never tried planning a trip. That sounds like an amazing and generous offer you’ve made.

@busdriver11 Italy is very doable on a budget, including Cinque Terre.

Yes, I agree, Italy can be pretty dang cheap. We’ve hiked the Cinque Terra before, stayed in Monterossa, and the costs were very good. We also spent a week in Sorrento, and that was so cheap. Not including hotel, we spent $100 a day for two people. That included all food, coffee, wine, train, boat and bus travel, attraction admissions. We weren’t even trying to do it cheaply, but if you can buy an amazing carafe of the best wine ever for 4 Euros, you can’t go wrong.

But for this trip, I’m not trying to go cheap. I just like getting 4 star hotels for 2 star prices, and usually find a way to get good deals. Rome is another story, though, pretty expensive.
