Many of my nephews ( we have 9) took Summer courses at a target school. The programs are very expensive but seemed to have helped a LOT. Three nephews in particular were good, not great students and got into very good schools (IMO above where they normally would have landed). Two got in after being waitlisted.
The programs I have seen tend to be very very expensive.
As a family, we were overwhelmed in a positive way at the assessment of ability/talent & attention given to our student during the summer programs. This is significant as the summer student was enrolled during the regular academic year at one of the most elite prep boarding schools in the country which was not shy about sharing in-depth evaluations & critiques.
My kids would be doing this type of programs this Summer, except they have been burnt out by Zoom activities and want some time outdoors.
This year, many programs are on the fence regarding in person or online. It’s not worth the $, IMO, for online. But one has to commit before they decide.
If my oldest knew what they wanted to do and which school they wanted to attend, I’s still see real value.
I do not understand your post. My references were to summer school courses at an elite university. I am unaware of what you are referring to by “other activities”.
There are lots of per-college programs that are run at universities. Some of them have classes with other “normal “ students, but many are self contained. Most of them also have other non academic portions of the program.
