Summer/Fall 2015 Transfer Thread

@flashdance34 Here is a list of what our orientation schedule will look like:

@Brandacus what are your stats ?

@NursingUT 1) CS and 2) EE as well.

@aksamq8 My twitter handle: @alextrod as well as Facebook Page: www.facebook.com/arod356 for those attending the June 25-26 orientation. I’m an ECE major BTW.

@decorus Thanks!

Also, does anyone know if some classes are closed off to us right now? Not showing on the registration page? I was just browsing, and it seems that almost everything is closed or waitlisted already. And the ones that aren’t get bad reviews online. Kinda freaking out.

@flashdance34 I don’t think you can register for anything until after you meet with an advisor at orientation. I can’t even look at any classes because it says I can’t until my orientation day. I don’t think you have anything to worry about until then.

June 25th/26th orientation people, Do y’all want to meet up at some point during orientation? It would be cool to finally put faces to names.

Also, protip: There is an app called UT Eats with all of the restaurants on and around campus with their hours.

Also also, message me too for my twitter/insta/facebook info. I’d put it up here but I am not sure if I can delete posts on here after everyone gets the info and I don’t want it stuck here forever because I don’t have anything set to private.

@aksamq8 Well that’s the thing, I am able to see the classes and their times & which professor is teaching them. But there is an advising bar, so I can’t actually register. But I can look at them. I’m just trying to figure out if more are shown after the advising bar is removed. Because if it stays the way it is, I basically don’t be able to get into any classes I need with a good professor.

Edit- I read that they open them up for orientation. And then close them until the next orientation.

@aksamq8 You should be able to look at the classes, you’re able to see them even before you’re accepted. Go here: https://registrar.utexas.edu/schedules/159

As mentioned though, it seems like the vast majority of classes are either closed completely or waitlisted, a few of my friends currently attending say it’s near impossible to get a decent schedule if you’re registering for classes in late April, obviously at this point it’s pretty terrible. To get an idea, I looked up upper level CS classes (since I assume most of us have taken as much Fresh/Soph level classes as possible) and (numbers may be slightly off) out of 52 non-honors course-types offered, only 10 still have a class that’s not closed or waitlisted. It’s a bit bleak, especially when keeping in mind that it’s only going to get worse by orientation.

  1. CS
  2. EE

If you are accepted, message me your Facebook information! We should all get together and celebrate for being accepted. It’s always nice to start having friends before the semester starts.

Yo. I was turned down for UT Austin Chemical Engineering as a freshman applicant in the spring. Check out my stats: about.me/kanaanbarraq
I plan on transferring there in a year. I was planning on going to Texas A&M and major in chemistry for one year. Will it be difficult to get a 4.0? I had some really good grades in high school. Sorry for randomly posting here. If I don’t get into chem engineering then I will go in for some other engineering major (aerospace, mechanical, computer, petroleum, or electrical). I am right now trying to get this one intern as a chemist for part of the summer to show I really wanna major in ChemE.

Got it. Thanks @SACTransfer15. Sounds rough but I’m going to try not to worry until orientation and know what I need to take. People drop classes all the time so I’m sure some spots will open up. I guess this is just part of what we have to deal with when transferring.

Hey, I need to send in a final high school transcript. Is it okay to just mail that to the school instead of hand delivering it?

@Toastyful Is it possible for you to send it electronically?

@TheThinker7 I don’t know if my school even does electronically. So I’m going on the safe side and assume it’s not possible.

@Toastyful My high school mailed in my transcripts for me, and they just accepted it. So yeah, you’re fine mailing it.

Okay, so I got bored and crunched some numbers. This process has made me really interested in admission statistics.

Roughly 32,589 freshman applied in 2014, about 12,379 were accepted and 8,979 were automatically admitted because they were in the top 8 percent of their class. Taking out the automatic acceptances, that means that 23,610 incoming freshmen were competing for 3,400 spots. THAT IS A 14% PERCENT ACCEPTANCE RATE if you are not in the top 8% of your high school class.
…and they say they have a 40% acceptance rate. Which they do, but not really.

So, if you aren’t an autoadmit as a freshman, you have the same admission chances as an an Ivy League. (Cornell)

Poor freshmen.

Still waiting…

It’s as if the entire admissions department took a week long vacation.
