Summer Leaders Seminar

Nora (asian 5’2 girl. That pretty much says it all.)
Arrival: uh…whenever my parents decide to drive me from Princeton area to there. Probably sometime in the afternoon.

hey usma, how was it, what was the pt like? also, what did u do during the seminars? btw, r the communal bathrooms alright?

it was really fun. We were all sad to leave at 10am… it was a lot of repeated stuff, like we kept messing up the graduation…that kinda sucked. We did a little bit of PT. Get used to walking. ALOT. and get used to going up stairs, WP is full of them! The mixer in the beginning was pretty fun, too. People were scared to dance (not me :p) but get in there. If you see sergeant wichot (short white female) tell her swayze says hi, she’ll instantly like you (seriously!). I did the Law workshop (really fun), mathematics (better than i thought it would be), and systems engineering. All were pretty fun. The grass drills was the most fun part…but none of it was that much of a workout. I think I did maybe…600 pushups the whole week, so that’s not too bad. people were unprepared for the CFA rbecause they did not give us breakfast that day (long story) so people were really upset…anymore specific questions? Sorry for the crappy grammar, i’m really tired.

swayze

oh btw, yeah communial bathrooms were fine, everyone did their thing and got out (zero people on the 6th floor (94 steps) used a bathing suit.) ALSO!!! I used ONE count it, ONE collared shirt that i brought. They might change that, but people were uspet. The only shirt i used was fri night at the barbque dinner (which was fun too).

Picked up my daughter yesterday after the end of Session 1 - she’s been very quiet. I think she’s very conflicted about whether she wants to apply to West Point. One obstacle is her brother - she probably really wants her own identity and school. Maybe she’ll apply to Annapolis but then she’d be kicked out of our family - her grandfather was a Lt. Gen. She was impressed with the kids - said some were weird but she understood how focused they were. Was concerned about “sexism” at WP - thought women weren’t treated equally, and that many of the cadets/soldiers/even fellow SLS attendees didn’t think women belonged in the military. At one point a soldier working with her squad went around the group and asked each member what sport they were doing in high school - he specifically skipped asking my daughter. So, we’ll see what she decides. Oh, she also complained that there wasn’t enough of a physical challenge for her - she would have preferred more and tougher PT.

yeah the PT was kinda crappy. the most amount of PT we did was in the highest grp, where we did like 3 or 3.5 miles at a 6:30 (i think?) pace…it wasn’t that hard.
The highest scoring female in SLS session 1 was in my squad, and she was treated equally. Girls, atleast in my platoon, were given the same respect as guys. I’m suprised she didn’t tell anyone about the incident.

Egads! My son is there now… session 2. I’m wondering how much of a wake up academic call this may be for him. I’ve no doubt on the military side.

I would not describe it as being a wake up academic call to anyone. For me and many other kids it was kinda just a try and stay awake during the classes so you dont disrespect the teachers. And just to be clear, I’m not one of the kids who falls asleep in classes at high school. It was just the PT in the morning, coupled by 5/6 hours of sleep most nights and being awake for the rest of that.

I think the hardest part was trying to stay awake during the morning briefings.

Amen to that…well theres more to come. Nine and a butt more days of being a civilian.

So…do you eat with the cadets?

HINT: Johnson (I’m not him)

hey guys just got home and I leave in like 8 hours for NASS but don’t worry USMA is by far my first choice I’ll comment more on SLS later it was a blast I was in 4th Platoon 2nd Squad (Johnsons Squad) Sgt. Jonas was our squad leader he was awesome. and johnson was in the room next to mine, I’ll never forget him.

My scores for the CFA were this:
Mile: 7:50
Push Ups: 51
Sit Ups: 71
BBall: 66ft
Pull Ups: 7ft
Shuttle: 9.5

and I was at NO RISK so I passed.

it was unfortunate that I couldn’t find any CC’ers there and I even asked around. Will be back in a week tt(yal)l

oh yeah hazhulkhen what squad/platoon were you in to know about johnson. I know he was kind of a big deal all week but still.

wow, the SLS was frickin amazing
i wish it wasnt so short. the cadre was cool, and i loved every moment, esp during pt and did the POWERSQUAT!!!

well, i was in p2s7… how about everyone else?

haha sgt. jonas is crazy as hell…i bet his voice was gone though.

and hollweg is cool too.

P3S5, Best Platoon, Best Squad…

3rd Platoon got the shaft…

SLS was phenomenal. It completely confirmed my desire to go there. It was so relieving in a way.

There are so many things I want to talk about! It was just awesome “killin’ the baby seals ‘arh arh’!”

yea man, i hear u… the more i think about west point, i wanna go there. its between west point and UMich.

At least you weren’t one of the homos that took down our flag from first squad. What a bunch of Pink Berets!

yea, the first squad in my platoon, 2, decided to take down the flag. *** did u guys have a flag up there anyway?

sigh…cadences…i hate nmmi
