NYLF isn’t prestigious because anyone can get in. No one nominated me (I’m not your typical ‘good’ student at all) and I got invited to about 5 programs just like NYLF, all asking for 2000 dollars and 10 days of my summer. But just because it’s not prestigious dosen’t mean it’s no good. If you want the experience, go ahead. But if you’re looking for something to boost your college applications, these sorts of programs are not worth the money. You should try volunteering at a hospital near you, or doing an intership if you can find one. Those look good, and are free!
