Summer Program Big List- Data/Info - keep adding

Thanks! It’s easy to remember (the name, that is). My daughter is in HS–a junior–and she said the group was mostly her age, except for one young woman who had done the program in HS and was hoping to return to do it again now that she’s older. I’m not sure how old she was, but got the impression early 20s. I actually forgot to ask her about the talent level of the other kids. I’m guessing they auditioned separately for vocal and monologue, but would have been in the dance section together. She’s out now, but I’ll write again after I can ask her that. I know that she’s a little concerned that the kids will be older and that it could make more sense to do one of the college-based programs while she’s trying to figure out what she wants from college and save BTP 'til later on, since it’s an opportunity available to older kids. But it sounds so rigorous and good that she’s definitely hoping to get in and then will see what options she has.

quick follow up: my d said that the voices generally sounded good through the door. she said there was a range of dance levels, including some very experienced and very good, some with natural qualities and less training, and some who were less strong, either in terms of experience or talent.

Let us know if you hear. They should have gotten our DVD last Thursday or Friday.

Anyone audition at Michigan yesterday? Report?

We were at Mpulse auditions. They ran well but a very short time. As some parents said, we flew all this way for 5 minutes! The kids prepared 2 songs, they picked one. He asked my d and another that compared notes to sing a bit of other one. She did her monologue, he asked a few questions and that was it. She loves the campus and the program. Only time will tell.

Theatremomma- Don’t have much to add about yesterday’s TBP audition but D noted the dance was mostly “Fosse” jazz with a nice ballet combo as well; the group of tappers was small so each did a little improvised demo. She was done in 2.5 hours (most of that being the dance call), and she was near the last. She was told she’d get word in a week of acceptance or not. Maybe you won’t have to wait long for the DVD results, either. I didn’t hang around and “network” at this audition but most of the kids seemed late high-school age to me.

Thanks for all the feedback. Good Luck to all! My son is just starting jazz and ballet so we threw some tap on the DVD and skipped those. If they need a lot of jazz, we’re out. But BTP says you need to be strong in ONE- voice-dance-acting and proficient in the others. I’m hopeful.

We got good news today. My daughter got into BTP! It’s a big relief, because now I feel/hope she can’t go wrong. Still holding our breath to hear from MPulse and not sure how to handle the fact that BTP deposit is due earlier than we may hear from MPulse. I guess we’ll wait for a while and see what happens.
To fourkidsmom, was there a big crowd at the Michigan audition?
Good luck to everyone!

Congratulations! My d counted, there were 55 kids auditioned in person! the secretary at Mpulse thought that they would have decided before spring break (this week) so I’m hoping maybe letters will come this week. Although…they have until the end of March. We leave for spring break a week from tomorrow and the check will go in the mail to BTP if we haven’t heard from Michigan
Congrats! PM me and we’ll compare notes!

I hadn’t heard from BTP so I called. They haven’t made any decisions on DVD auditions yet. They hope to have those decisions later in the week. So no news was not bad news, whew!

Congrats to papayamom and fourkidsmom!! Did you hear by email? Did it give details? (living vicariously thru you)

Thanks everyone! And thanks fourkidsmom for more info about MPulse audition. If you were the one who said earlier you weren’t holding your breath for MPulse response, I realized that’s a better idea than mine, of holding our breath! (I will PM you soon to discuss)

Yes, we heard by e-mail. I got an e-mail about financial aid application first, so I called to find out if that meant my d was accepted and they had to double-check. They said they had just sent out the acceptance e-mail but I hadn’t received it, so thank goodness there was a f/u financial aid one, or maybe we wouldn’t have heard. Though could be that the e-mail to my d did go through, but she was at school at the time and I at work, so I didn’t know. There was some info, not details of the daily schedule yet, but I have to go back and re-read more carefully. I’ll share if there’s anything noteworthy. Thanks for the congrats. Good luck theatremomma!

We also heard by email. I’ve emailed back and forth with Kim with questions and she’s been great. I’ll be happy whichever, but I truly think that the BTP program is right for her. If nothing else, she’s a strong dancer and there was no dance component in the MPulse audition. If there’s no dance audition, I’m guessing it’s not a strong dance program. I could be wrong but…

Thanks for the good wishes. These 2 programs are a stretch for us but I’m thinking positive. My son just turned 16 in November so he is at the young end of the BTP group and Mpulse says right on the site that they very rarely take a sophomore. But a boy has a better chance! We are going to the USC summer program open house on Saturday. It is a non audition program so that will be a back up for him. Whatever happens will work out great. I think these kids have a great time wherever they are doing what they love! I am really enjoying hearing about the audition adventures and will be SOOO ready in the next 2 years!

The Arts Edge
My son just received acceptance from his first choice school yesterday and I can say, without a doubt, attending 2 weeks with The Arts Edge in New York City last summer made the difference in him being accepted.
Please look it up and ask me any questions. It really was life-changing for him because of the opportunity he now has. They helped with his song and monologue choice and he received 2 weeks of much needed intensive dance training. He came away with a very clear picture of what he needed to work on, and poured himself into it. He has not been rejected from any schools yet and is just waiting to hear???
Halley Sheffler is so warm and sincere in her interest in developing each student’s talents and what is best for them.

Thanks! I’ll do that right now!

Arts Edge runs until Aug 19. Our school starts Aug 17. It did look like a great program. bummer!

Oh, that’s too bad. Maybe you can continue to check the website for other workshops Halley offers.
For anyone else reading this, please check out the faculty Halley has booked for this summer. I don’t know how she did it…or how these instructors can be so generous with their time!! Lucky students.

Where do kids stay for Arts Edge?

This is a quote from Halley Sheffler:

“We will have chaperones for under 17 this year, and will be in a brand new residence all (re-done old hotel) in fabulous Brooklyn Heights.”

I believe I read on the site that it is a 20 min. subway ride away.
Apparently spots are filling quickly.
Its a good one!

(I am not affiliated with Arts Edge-just a VERY happy Mom)
