Yes, I did allow D’s friends to present, but did NOT buy from them (and told them before hand that I was NOT in the market for knives but if they wanted to make a presentation while knowing that, I would let them do their spiel).

If the kid does get paid per appointment, I’m glad I did give him the time, and I’m glad I only bought what I needed, not the pricey set, to give him more commission. I did wonder if the free product came out of their commission, which is why I was hoping to give him additional sales. But he seemed only interested in making the appointment, not repeat sales.

I am a self employed contractor, so I know all too well how little money you make when you work for yourself.

I understand now his reluctance to travel to certain parts of the city for only one appointment. At least he’s monitoring his gas and mileage and trying to come a little ahead.

I sat thru one of this, D’s friend has presented herself and the product really well, but it was an understanding from the very beginning, that there will be no order, period. I did not want to lie to a girl, I told her this straight. But she appreciated the time that I allowed for her presentation and was very long, but I was impressed by her appearance and performance. Nothing negative to say and I believe that she was getting a great experience. Not sure, maybe she was paid somthing per appointment.

I, too, have bought a couple of Cutco knives. The young man was enthusiastic and well-prepared - I bet he sold a lot that summer!

I once got a call from a young man I knew regarding a charity presentation. He said he had an interview and they wanted him to come back with the names of some people he could call on AND some donors. As in he wanted my credit card number over the phone. And this was in the interview process. I told him very kindly that I would never give my credit card info to a charity over the phone and neither would anyone else I knew. I suggested very strongly that he not continue to pursue a job with this organization.
