Were they researchers or something?

I got in!!! I’m so excited! I just got the email! OJAI!

WHAT??? CONGRATS! I never got it…so I guess
Nevermind, I still have the later rounds and the KVPY is already assured…
But…what the **** I’m disappointed. I’ll wait a couple of hours though. Got my last exam in the morning. What use getting excited and distracted all this time if I wasn’t gonna get in lol.
Edit: Refreshed my inbox at least 50 times
If anyone gets a defferred/rejected letter please post that as well.
On second thoughts I’m wondering if the results will be declared separately for international applicants?

Got it-
Dear Gaurav,

We regret to inform you that the Admissions Committee is not able to offer you a place in the 2009 Summer Science Program. Because SSP attracts a large number of outstanding applicants from around the world, and our enrollment is limited to 72, every year we find it necessary to turn away quite a few promising young scientists, such as yourself.

We thank you for your interest in the Summer Science Program and we appreciate that the time required to prepare your application was a significant investment. Although this outcome may be disappointing for you, we strongly encourage you to continue your scientific studies.

Best wishes,
Richard Bowdon, Executive Director
Summer Science Program

[You will receive the above in a letter, but I wanted to let you know as soon as possible by email.]

Damn itl! I wasn’t even ‘deferred’
NOT HAPPY

I got in to Socorro! alskjdf;laksjdf I seriously didn’t think I was going to make it in; actually AS I WAS refreshing my email I was thinking “Guh, there’s going to be an email today, and it’s going to be bad news” and then the email title was “congratulations!” and I pitched a spaz.

Time’s Arrow, congrats! Haha, but we won’t get to meet because we’re at different campuses.

But oh no, gary, that sucks! I’m sorry =

Coin, congratulations!!! (waiting for summer is so much better than waiting for the email don’t you think?!)

Gary7, I can’t believe you didn’t get in… I’m sorry :(

I got in at the Socorro campus. Sorry to those who got rejected. Congrats to all who did.

what are your guys stats. i wanna see how i match up.

Accepted to OJAI!
Let’s get together now
PM me. I can’t wait to meet you guys.

Congrats! My regrets, gary7.

Time’s Arrow – definitely, haha!!

bertoffski123 – awesome, looks like I’ll be meeting you this summer!

trickysocksman – uh, I don’t know how much my stats will help, but I’m an average CCer. 2260/3.9/etc. My classes and ECs are all over the board in the sense that I have a lot of sciences + humanities things going on.

magi – Congrats!!

I just had an internship interview and I mentioned SSP to them and that I was accepted and one of the interviewers knew what it was. It was pretty cool xD

Lol, it seems everyone except me made it! Really happy for all of you Have fun. Feeling much better now after a nice sleep… Haven’t told my parents yet hehe. They weren’t too interested in SSP either. The biggest prob if you are living in a relatively small town like mine is you don’t really get a platform for exploring your potential… I mean even if I WANT to and have really good ideas I can’t get hold of any research internships etc. That’s probably why I wanted SSP so much. But nevermind…I’ll find better things to do this summer. Have a few really good plans already. If they are successful, I might actually do more than what I’d miss in SSP
I guess the international applicants this year must be all INPhOs and IMOs etc…
But seriously, I won’t forget all the excitement and discussions in this thread for quite some time lol. It was great knowing so many successful SSP participants I would love to see pics and stuff when you get back from the camp ;-)

Congrats guys. Participants in SSP Ojai better beat those in Socorro. =) evil grin

Accepted to Socorro! (but I still can’t pronounce it :))

Sorry gary7. I know you’re a great applicant. Perhaps you were rejected because you were intl applicant?
I’m very scared now. I check past posts, and it took three weeks and a day for 1st round applicants to recieve their decisions. Ahhh.
I probably won’t get in either. I’m such a loser. I missed national merit semi finalist by six points, missed AIME qualifier by 1 point, attract girls I’m not attracted to, lost a chess tournament champion by one point
I won’t be surprised if I get rejected . . .

Oh and gary7, my parents weren’t researchers. They LIVED in forrest villages. I guess they didn’t like the city? We somehow ended up comming to America . . .

Don’t think of yourself from that perspective, QuantumArbiter. I have none of those four stats, neither their equivalents (in the country I am from).
You still probably have a week or so to wait keep your hopes up!

I’m so sorry gary7
Have fun (and learn a lot) at your fellowship, and remember that we’re thinking of you.

Quantum, for the last time, you need to THINK POSTIVE. You’re adversely affecting my happiness right now… ;)

@tricky:
My basic stats are on my stats profile - just click my user name (but I hadn’t taken the SAT at the time I applied, so disregard that).
My essays were:
- Black holes
- Four of my ECs, and how my love of each of them has impacted me (yes, it was slightly over the word limit)
- My unusual singing voice
- A. Obvious
B. Being a vegetarian in a meat-heavy area
C. My Gold Award project
D. Not-very-impressive science ECs

I got deferred=[ Does anyone who went through the process last year know what this could mean?

magi,

What country are you from? I’m relieved to hear at least some intl got in^^

gary7,

Don’t feel bad at all! The intl applicant pool must be really scary as you imagined. I was almost on the IMO team for my country last year and that didn’t help much=[
