According to <a href=“US Naval Academy Alumni Association & Foundation - www.usna.com”>http://www.usna.com/News_Pubs/Publications/Shipmate/2003/07/Summer.htm only 40% of NASS attendees go to USNA. Also, recs are written up by your leaders, so it can be a pro/con if you go.

According to http://www.usna.edu/Admissions/selection.htm
“We will automatically process all summer seminar applicants as applicants to the Naval Academy upon completion of the Summer Seminar selection process. There is no need to submit an additional preliminary application. Due to limited space in the Summer Seminar Program, we highly recommend students not selected continue pursuing admission to the Academy. Summer Seminar is a competitive program and can only accommodate 600 students in each of the three sessions (1,800 total).”

So, drawing from that, I think not being able to go to NASS isn’t a disadvantage. I think NASS is more of a way for you to check out the academy for a week and have some fun with other possible future classmates.
