SUNY Binghamton Wells College, or CU Boulder

@sybbie719 I was accepted to UAlbany without EOP (they said my scores were too high) but I turned them down.

I applied and was accepted to several SUNY schools (but I was not admitted EOP to any of them)

While I agree Boulder is not an affordable option, Wells offered me a very generous financial aid package leaving me with about $10k in loans per year (not awful), Le Moyne also offered about 40k in scholarships (I did not receive my financial aid letter yet but I assume that it’ll make it affordable given my income level)

The New School attracts many students within my GPA range.

Binghamton has already deemed me eligible for EOP, and my mother went there (did not complete her degree however).
But thanks for the tips.

the max you can borrow is $5500. Is the balance a parent loan?

Remember at this rate, you will have almost 50k in debt (remember there are increases each year and the amount that you can borrow through fed loan program is $5500 freshmen, $6500 sophomore, $7500 junior and senior year). With your family having a 0 EFC, you are financially cutting it way too thin. I think that you should keep albany on your list (because you need a financially feasible option)

Leymone does not meet 100% need except for HEOP.

Your best bet would be complete the EOP process for bing. RIght now you are academically eligible, they must deem you financially eligible and hopefully still have a spot. Get your stuff in asap because seats go on a first come/first served basis.

Once you are in, you may be able to transfer to another EOP/HEOP school. Remember EOP also has free SUNY grad school . What is your anticipated major

@sybbie719 I am aware that Le Moyne does not meet 100% of demonstrated need. However, assuming the total COA is around 51k/year and that I qualify for maximum TAP/PELL this is what it would come out to;

40k in scholarships (renewable)
5920 from PELL
5165 from TAP

$51,080/year

I meet the income guidelines as determined by the State of NY, in my household of 4 with a combined income of less than 10k/yr. so here’s hoping.

I was not aware about the free SUNY graduate school, thank you for bringing that to my attention.

My anticipated majors are Economics and Philosophy

their biggest scholarship is 25k/year

What exactly does your letter state. Is it 40k/year or 40k (10k/year renewable) read it carefully

you should run the net price calculator

Whoops, my bad! I recieved 10k a year for 4 years. (They compounded it all in my acceptance letter)

note: I ran the net price calculator with less than 30k family of 4 (3 kids) the net price is 19.5k/year (after grants and scholarships of $27.9). after you use your $5500 loan, you would still need to come up with 14k

That is going to be a big gap. did you apply EOP at UB?

sending you a PM

Thank you. I wasn’t really that enthused by Le Moyne anyway.

I know that Wells College is participating in the SUNY free-tuition program (I know it’s not a SUNY, however there are some private universities participating in it as well) The remaining 10k I would owe would be covered by this. Making Wells my cheapest option.

There is a serous miscommunication. The scenario you presented is not going to happen.

Did your GC explain to you how the enhanced scholarship works

The most you can get from excelsior is $6000 for a private school through a combination of TAP, Enhanced tuition and the school match. This does not mean that you will get free tuition at Wells . You get full TAP ($5165), which means you will get a few hundred dollars if anything from Wells.
