Support for LateToSchool

Thanks for the update, aibarr. I always thought it was so cool that you were doing that for LTS.

This thread rips at my heart…so much hope…

Aibarr - What a lovely gesture of yours! Next time I go to Rice to visit DS, I will mosey on over and pay my respects to these beams. I’m sure LTS would be proud of your work.
My family is touched by lung cancer, too. My MIL had treatment last year for lung cancer (also a non-smoker) and is currently in remission, and we are hoping that she stays that way for another twenty years or so…

What a beautiful structure, Aibarr! I loved the idea of designing the spandrels in LTS’ honor when you introduced it, and it’s great to see it come into being right around the anniversary of her death.

I have to admit that my heart sinks a little each time I see this thread.

Thank you for posting the photo. It’s lovely.

Bravo, aibarr! Great photo…great job…guessing that LTS would be delighted and honored.

off to to the Alley for a Spandrel!!!

aibarr…thanks for your lovely good will gesture! wonderful…thing to share with those of us who so warmed to valiant and always interesting and incisive fellow parent Late to School.

My son starts Vanderbilt this week…but we visited Rice with the deepest respect and awe for the surrounding health care buildings…a wonderful mission in America…in a few blocks people in medical professions in Houston make a huge difference…

I have a confession to make. I have been a smoker since my college days. I always felt unease reading posts here that touched on smoking. Now that I have gone a whole week without lighting one up, I think I can poke in this thread and come clean with it.

padad–good for you! You can quit that nasty habit! ;)

Hooray for you; come back anytime you need support :)

Good job, padad!!!

Thank you for coming public, I think it will help other people.

Congratulations, padad! We’re rooting for you.

aibarr: a beautiful structure in memory of a beautiful woman

padad: you have strength and bravery, run with those great qualities

I lost a dear friend today, to cancer, too young. This thread has been inspirational and may it continue to provide beauty, strength and bravery to our community here.

Condolences to you, dear Denise, upon the loss of your friend.

Denise, so sorry for your loss.

Padad, way to go!

padad – one week hooray! the rest of your life… priceless.

I quit (as have many others ) and you will get through the first few weeks, which are the hardest. You have a lot of conditioning and associations to break.

If you are ever at home and overcome by the urge, take a shower. Very few people associate smoking and showering. :D

Mourning the loss yesterday of Patrick Swayze. Yet another life cut short by pancreatic cancer, though he put up a good fight for 20 months.

But I have to tell about a friend who survived stomach cancer against all odds & predictions. He was literally on his deathbed last winter after the operation to remove most of his stomach. He survived that, went through chemo, and has recovered enough to go back to most of his previous activities! (He is rather elderly.) Walks around, including up and down stairs, and is talking about buying a car!

Take that, you stupid disease.

Mary Travers passed away tonight. “The cause was complications from chemotherapy for a bone-marrow transplant she had several years ago after developing leukemia, said Heather Lylis, a spokeswoman”. So many of us here were blessed with her music while we grew up. I am listening to her old vinyl records while I am writing this.

I’ve been listening to her on youtube. How wonderful that you still have records, padad!
