Support for LateToSchool

Kelowna, my daughter will be here next week; she had some delay in closing things down in Miami, and getting things organized there. She is very worried as you might imagine and we never dreamed I would end up in the hospital this week.

Tomorrow I leave for NYC for client meetings all day Monday; then back to D.C. Monday night. No clue how I am going to get through all of that especially with managing my luggage on Amtrak etc. and getting to my hotel considering it’s all I can do to walk across a room at present but I am simply not going to allow this horrible disease defeat me or slow me down. It’s just not going to happen. I sincerely hope that I am not going to die of this horrible thing, but, if I do, it will be on my terms.

Then, Tuesday I will be in my office all day, then Wednesday and Thursday the staging for cyberknife.

I am so thankful that I have my work; it keeps my brain engaged and keeps me going. I cannot imagine going through this without some very powerful, meaningful connection to the outside world. I think that if I did not have my work, not to mention my support system, this would be a simply unwinnable battle. What makes me say that is that I could not conceive that it could ever be possible to feel this sick…I cannot imagine facing this without the welcome distractions of serious commitments to others…

Edited to add: side to those conversant in Second Life, an interesting question/discussion point has been circulating around the IC community this week: if you visited the Iranian Embassy in Second Life, did you really go? So far, no conclusive answer…

Latetoschool: Please PM if you need help in NYC. I’ll try to arrange it.

Your choice of cherry blossom images:

[cherry blossoms - Google Image Search](http://images.google.com/images?um=1&hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&q=cherry+blossoms&btnG=Search+Images)

I liked this one, http://photos.si.edu/cherry/cherrya.gif</a>, but there are about 596,999 others to choose from! :)

LTS: I am in NYC on Monday teaching until a little after 5, then head to Penn Station. I can meet you wherever and get you where you need to be, help you, stay with you. Please let me know via PM what you need. Hugs. Lorelei

And of course the cherry trees are always in bloom in Second Life. :)

Some blooming cherry trees

(RE: visiting an embassy in-world: Well, you didn’t visit, your avatar visited, and what your avatar visited was a virtual representation similar to an online encyclopedic reference, except in 3-D. Rather like being able to walk a camera through a picture, or watch and control a movie taken inside the embassy, or read a website. My answer would be no.)

As someone who lives nowhere near Miami or NYC, I am warmed (to tears, actually) by all the offers to help LTS in NYC. I only wish there was some way I could help too. LTS, please take your CC friends up on their offers! Lorelei, how wonderful that you would be able to meet LTS at her train and help her!

LTS, I’m sending cyber-energy your way–to help you get from Miami-NYC and back with minimal effort.

LTS, If you want to walk among the cherry blossoms in a few weeks, let us know. I’m sure there are a few locals who would be glad to join you (myself included). Just say the word.

Oops, I meant DC to NYC.

I am also so touched and moved by such gracious offers of help in New York. Please forgive me but I am uncertain of how to respond, mostly because I do not know where exactly my business day will end on Monday.

One of the issues I have is that a colleague and dear, kind friend is flying in from Berlin to attend the meetings with me for the day. When all client business concludes I must, as a matter of ethics but also legal commitment give him the latest news. This is going to devastate him. Then we both run for trains/airports - he will return to Berlin and I will go back to D.C.

I didn’t tell him this week, because he was traveling, we both needed to focus on business, and, quite frankly the events Monday morning unfolded so quickly and with such stunning surprise that there just simply was not an appropriate avenue or method to communicate. If there is one thing I have discovered is that it is very, very hard on people who care about you to give them bits and pieces of information - but not the entirity of the information - and then leave them hanging for updates or not be able to navigate them through why the information changes. AND I am not a fan of sending this sort of information out via email, so, I just continued with my business commitments and didn’t tell anyone outside of my immediate on-hand support system. It is just too hard on the people who care about me. So I have to deal with this, I have to have this conversation, and, he refuses (so far) to accept any outcome except that I am going to win this battle.

So I do not know how to respond to these offers which are so very kind. I do sincerely appreciate them. I think that if I can get enough rest today/tonight, I should be o.k. I have done the Amtrak thing many times and I do like Amtrak. My colleague will carry the water through most of our meetings, I think. And, Tuesday will be an easy day for me, though Wednesday and Thursday will be nightmares of course.

Countingdown, I would love to walk the cherry blossoms. I can hardly wait…

Count me in! I would love to be part of a LTS support Cherry Blossom ‘Parade’.

LTS, as someone who spent many years immersed in the study of Japanese, I have a special love for cherry blossoms (sakura). I’m sure they’ll smile to see you. :)

Take care,
tobia

Well, LTS, if anything changes please keep me (and lorelei) in mind. You can contact me as late as Sunday.

Bring a light purse with not too much in it; shoulders do get tired, too. And take cabs!

No apologies necessary, ever.

We’re all looking forward to cherry blossoms, and I think after this thread they will always have a special meaning for me.

Just wanted to let you know that I’m thinking of you, LTS. So sorry to hear the latest news.

I have PM’ed you my contact information for Monday, when I have total flexibility late afternoon. If your box is full, please let me know via PM, with your e-mail information, and I will send phone # directly to you. You can decide what to do whenever. Take care. Lorelei

lorelei, I am so glad you can be available. Your generosity is your own, but I am sure many others feel that you are standing in for us, too.

LTS, please allow lorelei to help, if help is what you need, or if help would just make things a bit easier.
