Actually, I feel a desire for spam now…

I feel a desire for California roll, which of course is just as non-authentic as the Spam concoction.

But I’m a sucker for anything with avocado in it.

LOL - we never saw a California roll in Japan last summer. In fact, most of the sushi was raw fish and very exotic looking to us and we eat sushi several times a week here. It was actually quite scary ordering it because not many people in Japan speak English and all the menus were in Japanese. Fortunately, nearly every eating establishment has pictures on the menu, so we ended up pointing and hoping for the best. I suspect I would have been upset if I knew what I was eating sometimes - but it tasted good. :)

Agree on the avocado. I know I never would have tried sushi if there wasn’t avocado in it. But I love imitation crabmeat, real crabmeat, cucumbers, avocado, and asparagus, so I’ve been able to find something I like at sushi restaurants. I don’t know what’s in crunch roll, but I love it!

When I lived in Houston in 2005, there was a sushi buffet called Kirin. It was 22 bucks all you can eat, much more expensive than most sushi buffets in the area. But wow, it had all kinds of stuff. I only went once, as I felt really bad spending so much for just eating my usual, but my friends who have a lot more exotic tastes would have loved it.

Actually, whenever we have a family gathering, we order a sushi tray from a local Japanese restaurant because we have several family members who are vegetarians and/or have “exotic” tastes.

Last night at dinner, I had salmon sushi and decided to try a “non-authentic” roll - went with shrimp tempura roll. Very tasty.

My favorite is salmon skin, especially in a hand roll, which is a kind of cone made with seaweed.
