D accepted
Received email 3/17 @ 6:31pm
Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, International Relations Program
$10,000 Dean Scholarship + $10,900 Syracuse Grant + $2,500 Work Study

Am I correct about Syracuse automatically consider admitted applicants for merit scholarship? How will we be notified if we were to receive merit scholarship?
Thanks in advance!

@maleleela Based on the twitter post I received from the Syracuse admissions office, the emails are sent randomly (not just on Fridays) with acceptances and rejections in each batch. So you need to check your email everyday (as we all will be doing)

@loveagoodmovie i called today and they basically told me i cant get any more aid. im class president, have gotten straight A’s all through high school… idk what else they want from me. I’ve forgotten about Syracuse at this point. Very disappointing since this is the best program for me.

@Deltoro66 i had a 31 act, 4.7 gpa, class president, nhs, part time job, hospital intern, over 100 hours of community service, first generation college student.

Hopefully he doesn’t end up like me and actually gets a reasonable financial aid package

My D is from NJ and she heard on Friday night. Other classmates heard also but some have not

I am so anxious I need to get into NewHouse!!! Does everyone think another wave will comeout on Friday?

Spoke to Syracuse today and they said merit awards would be in acceptance email if one was getting merit. This is the first year they are doing it at the same time. My D got accepted to Newhouse but no merit money.

Still no word from Setnor, anyone here for Bandier:

I cant believe Syracuse would sent out decisions to some of us and not all, its just torture. Does anyone know when the rest of the decisions will be sent? It would really put my mind at ease to know, all this waiting is making me crazy!

I think admissions is really disorganized, it seems like from Twitter they’re still reviewing applicants which I find kind of unbelievable. Honestly, a school like Syracuse should have this more together. They should at least be able to say a day by when all decisions will be out, but they can’t even do that. It makes me mad as an applicant who’s pretty sure Syracuse is her first choice, but I also think it’s bad for the school as well. I am sure there are kids who figure they’ve waited long enough to hear and choose to go to another school and are later accepted. Ugh. I’d have a better time waiting if I at least had an end date. They really need to pull it together.

Merit awards came with admissions emails last year also.

@brianbowman I’ve spoken to admissions several times in the past few weeks. They said decisions will be sent out via email between now and the end of march. It’s random and both acceptances and rejections go out in each batch. Not only on Fridays but any day. We’re still waiting for my daughter to hear. She’s been accepted to Temple and Delaware already but is holding out to see if she gets into Syracuse. It’s just as nerve wracking for parents too. We just want to find out so we can move on with our lives.

I really don’t think that students are finding out other than on Fridays because people only update us about acceptances every Friday on here. I would like to believe that we will find out throughout this week but I just feel that we have a few more days to wait, unfortunately.

I hope this comment is helpful rather than more anxiety provoking.

I was accepted to Newhouse (no scholarship money). Based upon the news that I will get from other schools by the end of March, I will most likely give up my acceptance. Schools expect some of this, but it isn’t an exact science.

To deal with this fact of life, some schools create wait lists. Some schools (like Syracuse probably), issue acceptances in waves.

I know it’s so hard. I am going crazy, too, but we all just have to try to chill out for just a little while longer. We’re almost there!

Good luck!

So, I agree this is kind of ridiculous and very unimpressive on SU behalf.

For those of us still waiting, if you know you are NOT attending, LET THEM KNOW PLEASE.
That may open up spots for the kids on the list still.

Colleges are pretty aware of their yield rates. Syracuse’s is about 25%. Hence they admit many more people than they expect to attend and they have a pretty good idea how many they will need to admit. I doubt they are waiting around to see who turns down offers of admission before accepting the number they know they need to fill their class. My guess is that the waives are because they think it is in their best interest to notify people as soon as they have reviewed their application and made a decision. This would be especially true for those who they hope to attract with the best scholarships. This is my second round as a mother. It is highly anxiety producing. Colleges can’t really avoid causing that anxiety. My dd was accepted at her ED choice two years ago. She dutifully withdrew her applications to other colleges. Some ignored her withdrawal and accepted her anyway one offered her an honors program and a couple offered scholarships. I think this is more a sign of having an over whelming number of applications than anything else. Syracuse is my son’s first choice. He has been admitted to two other colleges and waiting to hear from two more.

this is me rn

Still no news…

No news for my daughters either. It is frustrating that SU sends notifications so much later than any other schools, but it is what it is. We will keep waiting.
