@PurplePlum - Does the dog hair get tangled in the Roomba?
@momofsenior1 my dog hair doesn’t get tangled in the Roomba, but I do occasionally have to clear the wheels and brushes. Mine is the e5 model. I’m not sure where my husband got it but if I had to guess, probably Sam’s.
I have an antique dresser in my living room. I keep the base plugged in behind/underneath it so my Roomba stores itself underneath out of sight when it finishes running.
We got a Roomba for kid for her condo, but after a year she gave it back to us. Says it is a hassle to keep things off the floor (and cats don’t like it when their dishes are put away)! We have a Milele roomba, and it is OK. It never fell off the stairs and is very gentle on the furniture legs. It needs to be let out in daylight because it uses the ceiling (the only non-movable object lol) to guide it. It picks up cat hair, but like @Lindagaf, I have not retired my Miele canister yet. I also have a silicon rubber broom that does an amazing job sweeping those little specks.
@momofsenior1 : No, not at all–though I do have a short-haired dog.
If you look at this video: https://store.irobot.com/default/roomba-vacuuming-robot-vacuum-irobot-roomba-960/R960020.html , you will got an idea of what the underside brushes look like. It seems to suck up the hair, rather than roll over it, if that makes any sense. In fact, I only sometimes on rare occasions, see my own long hair on one of the rollers–but that is rare.
This is what Roomba says about the 900 series:
“Tangle-free Dual Multi-Surface Rubber Brushes handle pet hair with ease, reducing hair tangles and brush maintenance. The high-efficiency filter captures 99% of all allergens, pollen, and particles as small as 10 microns.” https://store.irobot.com/default/roomba-vacuuming-robot-vacuum-irobot-roomba-960/R960020.html
I am unsure how tangle free it would be if one had a long-haired dog. The particular model I purchased (the Costco 985 version) works very well for me. It is possible that other and older models tangle up more though. I do not know how the brushes are designed in other models.
I was initially skeptical since reviews on these kinds of vacuums can be very mixed, which is why I decided to go with the Costco one. It works well for my needs and vacuums places that I hated to vacuum (under beds, etc.) and keeps my floors clean of dog hair. So I was sold!
D1 and her bf wanted one so it was a holiday gift. The bf wanted one that also mopped so we gave them this one which I was able to get discounted during the Thanksgiving sales:

They love it and mention it often. They have our family dog who sheds horribly and they’re thrilled with how well it works. They’ve never mentioned the furniture but, then again, theirs isn’t anything they’d care about as it’s mostly from Ikea or via Craigs List. Funny, they’ve yet to try the mop function.
Based on the comments above, it sounds like ‘Roombas’ have come a long way in performance over the years.
See that’s another thing. On top of dog hair, I want something quiet so it won’t terrify a new puppy. My old dyson is SO loud!! Of all the things we’ll ahve to train a new puppy for, I wasn’t relishing the idea of getting it used to the vacuum as well.
My pantry has an outlet so that’s where I was going to keep the dock. Out of the way most of the time & just leave the door open when the vac needs to return.
The Eufy looks like it does a good job going from one surface to another, which is important to me. Is there a roomba that does the same?
We have had various Roombas since they came out and have finally settled on two for our tiny 1200 sq foot home. It does a good job and we aren’t fans of vacuuming ourselves.
S bought his own Roomba as did D. It helps keep down dust and dust mites so helps minimize our allergies. We have hardwood floors and sheet vinyl in the bathroom. If we had 2 floors, we’d get one for each floor.
We had one a number of years ago. Worked well and we liked it. But dog hair (golden retriever) was too much. My son (who was 10-12 at the time) loved calling up tech support and getting replacement parts for it. I will get them credit because they replaced pretty much everyone on the machine multiple times at no cost. But at some point, they told us they were done. Couldn’t blame them. We talk about getting another one but we still have a golden and the shed issue has not gone away. I understand the machines are better able to handle dog hair now but haven’t tried it for ourselves.
We have all wood on first floor and built in whole house vac which is great. Especially with the dog.
My Roomba transitions from hardwood to carpet with no problem, though I primarily use it for my hardwoods.
I was visiting D1 and her bf last weekend and they had the roomba going (it was pretty funny as D warned me their place might be messy but bf apparently cleaned up and was running the ‘roomba’ when D and I arrived back at their place). Anyway, we don’t own one so I was pretty intrigued and it transitioned from their floor to their area rug with no problem. It was impressive.
We have the Shark self emptying robot vacuum and LOVE it! We had one of the early Roombas years ago and emptying it was a PITA! What’s the point of having a robot vac if you have to empty it all the time? We have a black lab that sheds all the time.
The Shark is why less than the Roomba self emptying version just as good. Google:

it’s a very detailed review on vacuum wars
My D has a top of the line Roomba that she likes but it is LOUD. I got an Euffy based on a decibel scale ranking I read online. It works well in my NYC pieds-à-terre with all hardwood floors.
I don’t know many people who have one, but among those who do, I’ve heard mixed reviews. If you have pets a lot of people have said the Roomba shouldn’t be your only vacuum cleaner…it doesn’t get up all of the hair and it’s nice to do a major vacuum once a week or so. The people I know who get the best results from Roomba have no pets and they’re empty nesters, so the house doesn’t get too dirty.
Also, keep in mind the Roomba doesn’t sanitize…so you would still probably want to mop hard floors and steam clean carpets every so often or when you need to…
