@Lergnom, that’s interesting because apparently Lasik causes dry eye in some people!

Thats interesting.
My Dr said I didnt qualify for LASIK * because* of my dry eyes.
When did you have it?

I had dry eye recently, my eyes were red, could barely read. I think I was eating a lot of junk food, so I stopped and eat more fresh fruit/vegetable. It seems to go away. I also had LASIK but didn’t work out as well as I age.
I also now hold my iPhone farther away, not so close, need to train my eyes to see longer distance.

I use Restasis. It’s disturbing to read it’s indicated in Sjogren’s as I don’t have that. And the Restasis has most definitely “cured” my dry eye. As for Lasik, she won’t do it on me because it causes dry eye in most people. She said it would aggravate my situation. I’m sure my insurance would not pay for it without a Sjogren’s diagnosis if that is its only indication. Man, I hope they don’t cut me off.

Restasis is used for Sjogrens, but not only for Sjogrens.

My insurer was OK oaying for my restasis for dry eye. I don’t have any other Dx. It didn’t help tho so I only bought it for maybe 3-4 months.

My eyes got very dry after menopause, and I use Freshkote with great success. An opthalmologist recommended this brand to me.

If my eyes are very dry, the drops do burn for a few minutes. This only happens if I forget to use them for a couple of days, or if I go on an airplane.

Get Cliradex. Trust me, it was developed by doctors after a much noted study. They are wipes you swipe over the eye. It’s sold on amazon. The website is Cliradex.com.

You can also try ocusoft foaming cleanse but that’s for milder conditions.

I use Refresh Celluvisc first thing in the morning, and again after my shower. I get 2 uses per little vial. I keep GenTeal gel drops by my computer screen, but rarely remember to use it. My eyes feel best if I use drops at lunch time and again when I leave work. I use GenTeal gel at night. I’ve been doing this since 2001 or thereabouts…

VeryHappy, SIL takes Plaquenil.

Thanks, @kelsmom.

Could the answer be as simple as eye squeezing exercises? I have terribly dry eyes, work on the computer all day and wear contacts! It is horrendous. I presently use various drops and warm compresses, but still suffer and remove my contacts as soon as I arrive home. Today I came across an article about not just blinking, but squeezing your eyes shut numerous times a day to get the oil producing glands to work. I tried it, and did feel more moisture in my eyes after squeezing. Kegels for your eyes? I am very curious to see if this helps me on Monday.

You are lucky you can still wear contacts daily. I have not used it for years, bifocal contacts are just not worth it. But I don’t wear glasses when I use my computer, I only wear glasses when I drive which is twice daily.

My eye doctor has been trying to convince me to do Lipiflow - but I hesitate to spend $1600 on a treatment that is not covered by insurance - might help, but might not. I am going to add blinking and eye sqeezing exercises to my regular routine and see if it helps.

Have not read fabulous things about this pricey procedure and would advise ALOT of investigating before investing.

It was not reimbursed by insurance in 2012 and still not reimbursed now, 2 years later. I take that as a discouraging sign. None of the ophthalmologists nor optometrists I have spoken with have recommended this.

I like my eye doctor, but, I am skeptical of a situation where he has spent considerable funds on this equipment and does not offer any type of “satisfaction or your money back” guarantee. He has no disincentive to recommend this treatment to every single patient with dry eyes! The studies I have looked at showed that 82% of patients experienced at least a 10% improvement - with no further breakdown. And if it does help, you need to do it annually.

So, I am trying to take the elements - heat and massage - along with blinking - and see if that helps.
