TAMU Holistic review candidates Class of 2022

They are better than the Ivies in some ways…Engineering is ranked anywhere from #9 to #14 in the nation. Quite a few of the Ivies don’t come close to that rankinig. Also, you don’t have to pay $60k per semester to get the degree. More bang for your buck!

@labegg i understand your point,but a&m claims to have rolling admissions which is why many people are frustrated. I even asked when i would receive a decision on the ask an Aggie option on AIS and the answer was “A&M follows a rolling admissions process,therefore review applicant decisions are based on a first come first serve,so you should receive a decision soon.” This question was answered in December, I applied July 1st… still have not recieved a decision

Let’s take Harvard for example, their current freshman class (2021) had 39,500 applicants. You may not be able to compare the scores of the applicants, but you can definitely compare the number of applications that need to be reviewed.

@labegg Amen!

Talked through the chat and was told this.
Gloria says:
Hello [applicant]. My name is Gloria how can I help you?
[applicant] says:
Hi, are decisions for regular applicants being sent out by March 1st? I’m sorry if I appear anxious. I just don’t want to get my hopes up.
Gloria says:
they will go out throughout the month of march

@CyRanchXfer, you (or son) posted way back in March 2017 on the UT Austin Transfer section and indicated that UT was his first choice and A&M his second. Did your son apply to UT? If so, was he accepted? Just curious…

@aggieco22 you are correct admission to certain specific majors is on a first come first served basis (Mays and Engineering, for example). Admission to the university however, is not.

Is A&M rolling admission?

No; choice of major is not considered when making the admission decision to the University. Most majors are determined on a first come, first served basis. There are several colleges at Texas A&M with additional admissions criteria and enrollment limits; therefore, admission to your major is not guaranteed.

Very confused how some people are being told March 1st and others mid-late march

Harvard acceptance rate is much lower than A&M, so I wouldn’t count that as a fair comparison.

@ATXAggie - that was my older son, and I’ve borrowed his account to post on this thread. He was not accepted to UT, was accepted to A&M but ended up attending another university.

@CyRanchXfer , gotcha. Thanks for the explanation.

I think there are several factors in play this year. They moved the application opening up earlier to July instead of August because they are now reviewing all Engineering candidates. Hurricane Harvey had an effect and I thought they did a good job of letting those folks know it would not adversely affect their application. Seems like mid February was the big final decision timeframe the last few years and now it appears to be March. So tons of people have applied earlier and are waiting longer than past years. Plus you have a few folks with decisions trickling in and you wonder why can’t they get them all done faster? I was one of those parents with a kid from a couple of years ago that had the application in August 1st and found out mid February that final weekend. I wish everyone good luck!

I have a feeling we will not hear until sometime in March. When we met with Admissions last year they specifically told us Holistic would not hear until March. I just hoped and prayed we would hear in February. Tomorrow we go to Tech.

From the Office of Admissions website under “Frequently asked questions”

If I haven’t received a decision by now does it mean I am getting denied?
No; due to the increasing number of students who qualify for automatic admission to Texas A&M, we must closely monitor our class size to determine how many students from holistic review may be admitted and when. The goal is for all students applying for the fall semester to receive a decision by the end of March

I am a planner by nature. I want to know when things are happening and where so I can plan far more in advance than is usually necessary. If it’s not on my calendar it doesn’t exist. I make lists… packing lists, to do lists, questions to ask lists. This is who I am! There are times that I can’t get the info I need to make these plans and lists and it drives me crazy. It doesn’t change what is happening, where its happening or when it’s happening so I don’t know why I let it bother me, but it does.

With all of that being said none of you (or your kids) are going to leave to college before March is over. None of your plans will be ruined if you don’t know whether you were accepted to TAMU tonight at midnight or two weeks or more from now. Does it suck waiting? Yep! Can you or anyone else do anything to hurry up the decisions people are waiting on? Nope. If you are worried about housing being available at your backup choice then put a deposit down on your backup so you at least have your bases covered. It doesn’t matter how many different answers people post on this board for when they were told admissions were coming or how long of a wait they think is fair… they will come when they come. Check your portal 500x a day, eventually it WILL change to something other than a pending status. I am so glad that I don’t work in admissions at any college, that has to be an awful stressful job.

My son was accepted to engineering in December, the only thing that knowledge has given me is that I have moved on from waiting on AIS to change to trying to figure out how to pay $30,000 a year in tuition, fees and costs (which I would be worrying about regardless of it being TAMU, UT or somewhere else). Best wishes for all your Aggie dreams to come true.

At this point for me I don’t see the point in worrying too much anymore. I’ve thrown way too much stress into this and it doesn’t affect how quickly I’ll hear back. To those still stressing, just accept that this is the way it works. Clearly we will all hear back sometime in the month of March so complaining about it or asking admissions the same questions won’t speed it up. God has a plan for everyone on this thread, hopefully A&M is in that plan. All we can do is wait.

I just got waitlisted by TAMU University Honors, but havent heard back about my regular admission at all… is this a bad sign?

I also got a waitlist for honors. I wasn’t necessarily planning on joining honors, but trying to show my dedication to the university by applying.

I would think you could not be admitted to University Honors before you were admitted to the University, so no, not a bad sign. It’s setting it aside until you receive a decision.

@AnimalLover445 … same here …

My son got a 29 on ACT, !280 on SAT, top 16%,144 out of 801 ranked Unweighted is a 3.73, weighted 4.0, almost all AP classes and has 9 hours of AP credited hours and signed up for 3 more tests in April.
