Tasp 2007

ahh finally in good ol sweden

it was kinda funny, they had dogs sniff all the passengers just cause we were coming from amsterdam
they actually did catch one guy and drag him off

I’m ashamed to say I used my personal conflict essay for the application to my back-up plan. Wait. No I’m not. I’m just that lazy!!!

Nate, I can’t believe you’re in Europe. Soooooo jealous.

Corey-- cool, we were at Straits.

Lol. Straits and Sino are like the same thing, basically. Same owners same style just different food.

Haha sniffing the passangers in Sweden nice. I went to Ikea last weekend, thats the closest I’m gonna get to Sweden for a long time.

dude i love santana row
my best friend lives there, and i work out at club one. and i study at borders sometimes haha

Nate - Have fun with the socialists. I read in Time today that all the wee Swedish school children are required to watch An Inconvenient Truth for science class. That’s pretty sweet. Same thing with Norway but, hey, Norway sucks.
I’m currently sitting at an airport gate waiting to go to Ann Arbor to visit UMich. A wee bit less exotic.

We’re required to watch that movie too, but it’s connecticut here.

It’s a bad powerpoint.

Haha Eugenia who are you…School? (Sorry)

Wow I haven’t been here in awhile. The threads have actually been active! Ahhh less than 2 weeks left.

We need more activity in the facebook group! XD

iriseyes - It was actually made using Apple Keynote, not Powerpoint. And as these presentations go, it was very good.

I actually fell asleep during the movie.

It was a peaceful protest. (har har)

What I don’t like about his movie is that he ignores an important fact: that the theory is not complete yet. He also “forgot” to mention that the Earth’s magnetic field is shifting, which is not part of the planet’s normal cycles. That’s just one part though. I’d like at this point to reference my pastafarianism, and say also that because both the population of the earth and the pollution of the planet have increased exponentially during the same time period, they are linked. Pollution is a fertility enhancer, obviously.

Everything he said about global warming I think is correct, but I was frustrated with what he DIDN’T say.

And also, that movie was a delicious commerical for apple. However, having dealt with both, I must say that apple is the PC’s servingwench. OS aside (we should all be running linux anyway) I just prefer PCs.

so much for having fun on vacation
i’ve been in bed for almost 24 hours now with a crazy fever :frowning:
and tomorrow i get to spend all day at the us embassy renewing my passport

still haven’t seen an inconvenient truth for some reason, maybe cause i want to keep my image of Gore2000, not the failure he’s become these days

Well he has filled out a bit. :-P

oh i go to Harker

My gifted teacher is making us watch it. I told her I think Al Gore’s a crock and most of his “facts” are overexaggerations or outright lies. (Look it up, it’s true!) I’ll believe global warming from CLIMATOLOGISTS–not politicians.

It’s a world issue, not a political one. I just wish Washington wouldn’t keep making it the latter.

iriseyes - I’m not a really science-oriented person (hence the TASP application) so I’m not in the best position to comment on the scientific merit of Gore’s case. That said, from what I can tell there really is overwhelming consensus among climatologists that carbon dioxide emissions really need to be reduced. Also, I’m the son of a Mac developer, so I have a natural affinity for teh Apple. I’d love to defend the OS (it’s really just prettified BSD, so in the same ballpark as Linux) or the hardware but I don’t care much for flamewars.
So, I’m in Ann Arbor, and I visited the Telluride House at Michigan today. A very nice woman there gave me a tour around and answered questions about TASP and about the house as an undergraduate dorm. In summary:
*TASS folks will stay at the house over the summer; they rent out a sorority for TASPers.
*The house has a great computer lab with an excellent printer, and every part of the house has Wi-Fi (celebrate, Corey).
*Another thing for Corey to celebrate about: while the exterior of the house isn’t particularly great (it’s a sort of modernist ranch design) the interior is gorgeous with excellent (and funky) furniture. Also, the rooms are HUGE. I mean HUGE. One of them, which functions as a guest room, has five beds which take up only half of the room; the rest of the rooms are the same size, with only two beds.
*UMich froshes don’t have it any easier than Tasplicants: there are usually 50-60 applicant for 5-6 spaces at the house, and the admissions process is very similar to that for TASP.
*The Michigan Telluride House is much more focused on community service than the Cornell house; every one has to get involved in some project around Ann Arbor.

If anyone has any other questions about the Michigan house, feel free to ask. If you get a chance, call them up and ask for a tour; they’re very nice about it, and it’s great fun.

And get better soon, Nate.

Crimson you rock. Haha thanks for thinking about me. feels special

Sounds pretty cool. Wait so you said the rooms were really big?

No probs. You’re the only TASSplicant I know of, so you immediately came to mind when she said that TASSers would be housed there.
And the rooms were ridiculously large. Like, half of one of them is about the size of my current room. You are truly lucky if you get in - and she sounded very relieved when I told her I knew of someone applying to TASS. And I quote: “Well, that’s certainly encouraging.”

Ha, if I knew about TASS as a soph I totally would have applied. She shouldn’t worry.

Speaking of worrying, I’m debating spending the $8 to find out my ACT scores a few days early.

Something tells me it’s not worth it though. =/
