just because you aren’t a stuck up rich snobby ***** (at my local high school all the top student gov, “rule the school” people are this way) doesn’t mean you’re a joke. We like you for who you are tako, and if you want to do Community, we (speaking on behalf of all us cc people) are proud of you. It means you value helping others and doing what you truely love to do. I’m happy for you and support your decision 100%.

Good question Dae; I guess un-naked sliced bread=bread coated with butter, jelly, cheese, etc.

Tako I know EXACTLY what you’re talking about, except leadership kids at my school have a reputation for stupidity, air-headedness, and poor matriculation.

Lol lindee. You know what? I asked myself the EXACT SAME QUESTION! Bra? Maybe I’ll develop new philosophies, or maybe I’ll develop breasts. This reminds me of this article I read a week or two ago. This hen spontaneously had a sex change and became a rooster, seriously!!! Its ovaries had apparently gotten injured the last time it laid eggs, and somehow it’s body just decided to switch hormones and genders. It made my day. I think it was on msn.com or something. What is with these truncated sentences?

Anyway… Anyone else absolutely perplexed by this whole Paris Hilton affair? I was reading PerezHilton.com (I know, shame…) and all I could think was, wow.

well i heard about it through the radio, through larry king, through the nytimes, through the washington post, through wliw, through scarbourough country, and finally through keith olbermann’s show (my fav. news program. anyone see his paris hilton puppet show XD there was also the movie made where his reporters stood outside her house waiting for her to show up. pretty funny commentary) i love how one girl can capture the attention of the whole nation.

so do you all think she is being treated unfairly just because she’s a celebrity? Personally yeah she is but imho, she deserves it. I have a question though, where are her parents in this whole thing. I know they’re there but how can they let her do everything she does and not even get mad at her or anything. Afterall the only reason why she can live the way she can is because of her father and worst of all, she’s ruining his name. 5 years ago if you met a Hilton it would be a big deal. At least i would have greatly respected them. Now its just like, whatever. They’re trash in my opnion (though i still love their hotels and will continue to stay at them if I feel like it.)

Ugh. Those celebrities…tsk tsk.

Fifty pages to go! :O)

Posting partay!

Party indeed.

I need to start brainstorming things to bring :D

I also need to buy a laptop lock. How much are those, on average?

Yeah, I was wondering that too. Is any of you bringing a laptop? And will locks make it safe?

I dunno about the locks thing, but I’m probably bringing my laptop (if only to squeeze in some homework when time allows).

^And when you are up late writing those essays the morning they are due. And so you can facebook your million pictures you will take. :-P

Trust me you wont be doing homework XD

lol, yeah. Well that was another question I had… do you guys plan on doing your summer reading for school? We have 6 books to read.
Luckily, 3 of those books are for Comparative Government, so they would be right in line with the seminar, they might even be text used in the seminar. Either way, do you guys plan on leaving it all for August?

I do plan to try and get at least 30 minutes a day to do SAT study, though.

SAT studying at TASP!? i’m probably not even going to bring my oil paints because i don’t think i’ll have time when there’s so much to do and so many TASPers to talk to.

i might bring one summer reading book to TASP (jane eyre) for the airport/plane ride. then again, i’m going to be on the same flight there and back with a TASPer so i doubt any summer reading will be happening. but then again, that’s what august is for! =P

Ah, yes; how could I forget facebook? :O)

You’re probably right about the homework. That is exactly why I am being exceptionally diligent by doing it now, and not spending all my time avoiding it and going on CC ;)

(Is inundated with sudden flood of posts)

Celita, same here, 6 books! Here’s my plan: I’ll do my English/Econ summer reading sometime between now and August, then finish whatever projects left when I come back. You won’t seriously study SAT, right? That’s such an icky test…

Roam, I love love LOVE Jane Eyre! :O)

I think I’ll bring a few summer reading books; see if I can squeeze them in.

I think I’ll reread Invisible Man for my plane ride book
Or maybe I’ll just sleep. We’ll see. I think I’ll be too excited to sleep, and pull an all-nighter
Yay redeye flights!

hi everyone, i’ll be attending the ut tasp this summer. i was just wondering how much of a difference this will make in my college applications. will this be enough to get me into really selective places?

Dont look at it that way. Just enjoy TASP for what it is, an amazing experience with amazing people and the rest will fall into place.

Yes TASPers go to great schools, is attending tasp apart of what got them there, yes… But with TASP selections being more selective than most schools. They do a pretty good job of picking the best and the brightest. So don’t accredit their success to TASP.

To give you a sense… Last UTtasp has the following matriculations:
Harvard
Harvard
Harvard
Harvard
Stanford
Stanford
WashU
Pomona
Ole Miss
Yale
Deep Springs
UChicago
Brown
Brown
Brown
UCSB
Amherst
Rutgers

All really good places. (yes the repeats are in there on purpose)

So good luck and try not to get caught up in the prestige or the college factor this summer, just have fun.

Also join facebook groups if you are on facebook.

this is a really important time and i don’t want it to be wasted doing something unimpressive. i feel guilty but at the same time i dont really care that much if i go to tasp or not, im just trying to get into a good university that will make a difference on my resume, and if tasp can help me fill up those lines on my application, ill be really happy, otherwise ill just get bored. i did not toil over my essays, im not a genius, and im not unique, so getting into tasp wasnt hard and it was also very depressing in a sense. i didn’t really take it seriously because i thought it was way out of my league, and i still got in, so it makes me think, what if there are other not-so-crazy kids out there like me that fell through the cracks, and maybe tasp isn’t all its made out to be. iunno, i like to think it gives me a huge edge over my classmates.

i’ll let an '06er field this one… lol.

There is no point in getting in an argument over your personal reasons for attending TASP. I know I disagree and I can speak for everyone else who is still on this board, that they disagree too.

The bottom line is. TASP is one of the most prestigious things to have on your resume. There is not really anything better, looking good wise, to do over a summer. “Even Harvard thinks before they gasp reject gasp a TASPer” It is true. Not just because of the 4 letter acronym but because being part of TASP is a testament to you as a person and shows that you are able to function at a certain level that is beyond the average applicant.

Like I said I disagree with your attitude towards TASP (from what you have wrote here and in your chances thread)… I will straight out say it disgusts me. But your right this whole college thing to some extent is a giant game, and you can say TASP is like being dealt 4 aces. But dont exagerate what it is. Harvard needs a way to reject applicants and they will be more than happy to throw out an arrogant and rude applicant in a heart beat, it makes there a whole lot job easier.

That being said, I urge you to approach TASP with a more open perspective. Saying it will suck will make it suck. I know some UT taspers and they are all good and a rather social bunch. You already got into TASP. And it has done all the positive mojo on your resume that it can, so now its time for you to get over that hump and have some fun this summer. :]

I urge you to contact some 06 TASPers and hear what they have to say. I’m sure there is always a few TASPers who are there for the prestige, but in the end they stay for the fun.

Best

p.s. I wonder what Ellen would say about this.
