Tasp 2007

Tasp Tasp Tasp Tasp Tasp =)

I’m BAAAAAACK, after a 50-page hiatus. My goodness. This thread turned into Karen’s blog for a bit, hehe.

Tako: “Yeah…it also sucks for me because since I want to be a teacher (or guidance counselor, I’ve decided) I can’t afford to take out massive amounts of loans. It really sucks to be a teacher, I’ve decided, because A. it’s not a high prestige job B. it doesn’t pay very well and C. it’s not well funded. So sad. Oh well!”>> A friend of mine who’s a teacher will be making around 48,000 a year, so I think that’s not too bad. Not six-figures, but hey. It’s not bad. shrug All depends on where you are, what you want, and all that jazz. Also, Tako, UMich is pretty expensive–it’s kinda like an Ivy. It costs $45,000 a year or so!

nate and karen, sitting in a treeee. I can see the romance blossoming.
And why does Nate keep getting banned, anyway?

And TAKO!

"No way. I’ll be wayyyy hotter than Aida

(Aida, if you’re reading this, I’m just kidding! Really! There’s nobody cooler than Aida! Or hawter!)

And Inky <333"

This was about 50 pages ago, but TAKO! PSHPSHSPSHPSHPS!!! Hahaha, I can’t wait to see you kids next year, talking about your experiences. :stuck_out_tongue: Imagine if you all gave the '08 TASPers fake info…Like, the prestigewhores would ask for your essays and you’d send them really convoluted papers, or really simple, dumb ones to mess with their heads. BWhahahaha. That’d be cool.

I vote that the '07 TASPers mail me something. Yep. Who’s in favor?
Aye! :P

How are you all doing over here, anyway?

And Corey, don’t be a betch. Get a phone.

And TAKO. I gotta call you and Susan, too. And say hello to Uber, :D.

P.S. - You reached the goal–congrats! :D

I just got back from the Hamptons. And now i have to go put some stuff on for all this sunburn. =/ and aida, you’re right: this is my blog. =D somewhat.

okay now i’m making it into my blog.

On monday while I was driving through brooklyn my mom told me my great grandfather was spanish, thus making me hispanic. I was so happy and thanked just about everything because well, CC has gotten to my head a little bit. She had no problem with me saying that or anything and i started to become very optimistic about my “chances”. Well then today she changed her mind. Apparently saying i’m hispanic is cheating the system because i’m not fully hispanic. In fact, using any form of AA to your advantage is cheating the system. I interpret this as her saying even minorities shouldn’t put down they’re minorities just because AA is wrong. So of course we got into a huge fight about this. And guess where, BROOKLYN. (I just found that a funny little coincidence. It was on the same road too.) Hence, right now I’m sitting back in my bedroom with the same pessimism and depression I had a week ago all because of my mother. And there goes my chance to get accepted by Columbia.

P.S.- does anyone know what the limit is on being considered a minority? Is it 1/8th of your blood has to be because that’s what I once heard. But the again ,one person in my school was 1/16 and he put it down. I think if I knew for sure I could convince her it’s okay. Yet there’s still a ton of doubt in the back of my mind. =(

Wow college confidential, I hate you. You make me feel like I have to be hispanic just to get into college. God.

First paper turned in today! YAAAAAAAAY! performs celebratory jig, then faints from lack of sleep

congrats uber!

haha, congrats, Uber! I bet you were up til’ the wee hours writing it, eh? :P

And Karen, I sort of agree with you. I think AA is somewhat necessary NOW, but there will come a time where it will definitely not be. The point of AA is to help foster equality, equal representation, and all that, but if it’s giving people an unfair advantage, then it’s turning into the wrong thing. Making minorities more powerful than Caucasians is just as bad as having the opposite happen.

I think that AA should not be done because of race, anyway, but on the basis of economical status. If you’re poor and white you have way less opportunities than if you’re black/hispanic/asian/etc and rich. However, being a poor minority just sucks because you have the worst of both worlds, opportunity-wise.

On the college acceptance front…well…I don’t think it’s that bad. I mean, colleges want diversity, not just “the best of the best of the best”, soooo it’s like they have a certain number of slots for each minority and they have to fill those. I don’t think it’s wrong. AA is an attempt to just stop the monopolization of a certain ethnic group or economic class over things, be they education, politics, or the arts, because they have more means. It’s a vicious cycle, really, and it has to stop SOMEWHERE, so that’s what it’s trying to do–put a rock in the machine so it will shut down.

While being a minority has its perks, it also has its downfalls and issues–personally, I HATE it when someone says “oh, so and so got into college because he’s [insert minority here]”. That’s…well, that’s dumb. It may HELP, but it’s certainly not going to get you in anywhere you don’t ‘deserve’ to be.

I think cheating the system is a matter of personal choice and issues with your own conscience. Personally, I don’t think that you should try to use your ethnicity as an advantage if you’ve lived your whole life as “Caucasian” and/or completely removed from your Hispanic/Black/etc roots. The point of all this is to ensure the diversity and give ops to people who otherwise might not get them, so to say you are a minority based on a simple technicality is wrong because you DO have the opportunities there and using the minority status WOULD be giving you an unfair advantage. However, it’s a matter of choosing the moral high-road or not.

Anyway, one of the libertarian points of view is that any form of AA is bad. Ideally, this would be true, but because there are so many racist and classist people in the world, there has to be an action to counterbalance that. If we lived in an ideal world with less prejudice and no racism, AA wouldn’t be necessary, period. Alas. We don’t.

yep, the world is far from perfect. that’s for sure. For the most part I agree with you. Especially with the economic status thing. But as you stated, that’s not going to happen for a while.

(I just noticed it says you posted that at 12:17 AM yet right now it’s 10:57 AM. how is that possible? Am I just looking past something?)
