TASP 2019

@sarcasticmyths thank you!!!

If they’re closed on weekends, I’m sure they won’t send the emails over the weekend. My guess is that they send them on Monday or Tuesday, based on past years it’s usually the fourth or fifth of March

@cherryglazerrr For me, the decisions as to who was ultimately chosen were released May 1st, so about two months after the finalist decisions! I was really lucky in that I got my first-choice seminar and location, but there’s not a high chance that you’ll be assigned one over another, regardless of what you listed - they really strive to put together groups of people that they think will work best. As for accommodations, my cohort lived in a frat house, which was big and mostly nice but kinda grody, lol (I talk about it more in my video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TcLM_Be2Aj8&t=351s). We had three floors in the house and one bathroom per floor (one of which was the ‘good’ bathroom, so we ended up making a schedule of who got to shower there when). We mostly had two people per room, and my roommates were absolutely AMAZING, love them so much <3

@ Everyone: Please don’t stress too much about TASP! It’s a great experience, but nothing’s ever going to be absolutely perfect, and whether or not you become a finalist or ultimately get in, I know you all have amazing futures ahead of you. That being said, here are some de-stressors for y’all to help you calm down if you’re freaking out (I know I was, haha):

@5toryt3ll3r just wanted to say thank you for all the kind words, advice, and info you’ve given on this thread! you’re very patient and empathetic. i’ve idealized TASP in my head to the nth degree and it’s making me incredibly anxious to know if im a finalist or not, in large part because i think i’d be a great fit but also in an even larger part because most TASP alumni describe it, as you mentioned, as a Life Changing experience. hearing an actual TASPer explaining how, while an incredible experience, it’s not essential for a great summer/life/whatever, is very helpful in making me understand that whatever the outcome of that upcoming email, positive or negative, things will be a-ok

True… realistically, if we account for the odds and weight for the pool of people who browse CC, only one of every eight or nine of us, if that, will make it to the interview round… if you visit past threads, the people who post on TASP threads from March-May are, broadly speaking, not those who post form Nov-Jan. Maybe 10-20% are, the rest are lurkers who’ve gotten in or people who’ve found the thread after the fact.

So given the odds, idolizing TASP is probably a bad idea.

Hey You guys, I applied for TASP (the Long 68) and figured I’d join the party

Welcome! We have coffee!? ~O) ~O)

@5toryt3ll3r omg I watched your video while I was applying for TASP!

Hi fellow CC-ers! I applied as well and hope to hear back as to the date of release for admission in the interview round!

Hey guys, amidst all this stress for waiting for decisions to be released, I feel like it is important to note that this decision is not the be-all end-all of our lives. The decision is out of our hands now, and it is just detrimental to our mental health if we stress about it. While I am eager to see if I get an interview, I realize it is more likely than not that I didn’t- and that’s okay. Whether I get in or not, I am grateful for the experience of practicing writing college apps, and I feel like I learned a lot. I wish you all the best, and decisions will come out when they come out. I love y’all!

Hey guys, I’ve been stalking this thread for quite some time, but I never bothered to make a CC account lol. I completely agree with @collegeSLAPS - it’s been a nice time, and thanks for all the advice!

@parousia Oh my goodness, you’re so welcome, and thank you for your sweet words! You guys are all going to be just fine, and remember that having the motivation to even complete the TASPlication in all its glory speaks to your dedication and follow-through. And @cherryglazerrr yay, that’s awesome to hear and I hope it helped you!!

“What is w h o l e s o m e for 500” @collegeSLAPS

What are people doing as back up summer plans?

I applied to FSU’s Young Scholars Program. hoping I’ll get into that, at least

@blueberrybb Get a job so I can start saving up for college apps haha

@blueberrybb I’m doing Boys State and working for college lmao

hopefully iowa young writers’ studio, job & research at a local college

honestly not banking on tasp. i probably wont get in! the time in between submitting essays and now has helped me realize that it’s not the end of the world if i’m not accepted. i’ll be so sad if iowa rejects me though

@bluediary am in literally the exact same position as you rn lmao (minus research at local college) tho I’m not even that high up on Iowa either tbh

interning at a law office and a CDC program!
