@iltoria chrysalism and FlameAlchemist are right in saying that you should put what you truly like, which Percy Jackson would be a great example of and your list definitely sound comprehensive - I only had ten things on mine with a blurb about why I enjoyed each and what it meant to me, so you can really go as long or as short as you like.
Can anyone help me interpret essay question 3b?
You find out that a TASPer has been telling your fellow students that you made comments that negatively impacted them. You are very surprised to hear this, and no one has ever said anything like that to you before. You begin to notice some of the other students are not as friendly with you anymore, and seem to be upset about what they have heard. How would you handle this situation?
In the first sentence, I believe the ‘them’ is a gender neutral third person singular pronoun, and the person that was negatively impacted. Please correct me if I’m wrong. The ‘no one has ever said anything like that to you before’ part is difficult to interpret, because the question doesn’t mention anyone having said anything to the writer. Is the finding out about the negative impact on the affected person the act of someone saying something to the writer? Does it mean that no one has ever told the writer that they have never been negatively impacted by something they have said? Can anyone give me an example scenario? I’m a native English speaker, but I can’t be sure of this. I’m also unsure about whether the writer is assumed to have actually said the comments in question that caused offense, or if it could be an untrue accusation. Do you think the prompt’s ambiguity is by design and meant to test the applicant’s ability to interpret it? I appreciate any help. Thanks.
@guydance It’s almost certainly meant to be ambiguous. I would note that, while most TASP essay questions stay pretty much the same and have had the chance to have their wording be refined over several years, this is the first time 3b has looked like this, so the wording may be less than perfect. I think an ideal way to approach it is as though you did say the negative things, albeit inadvertently, impacted the “them,” and therefore probably want to apologize, take responsibility, and make amends. Conflict resolution is a big part of TASP, and this questions is testing your skills therein.
Hi, I’m new here! I don’t really understand what the question “In a few words, describe your work and/or volunteer activities” is asking for. I am currently not employed so is it asking for my community service activities? Also, for the list of favorite things, do I have to explain each book/film/music i list?
@reallyscrewed Yes, community service activities are great to put there, and I would put at least just a very short description of each favorite thing.
Does anyone else have trouble getting into the application portal? Every time I try to get in, it says that the page has been redirected too many times. I’ve tried different browsers and clearing the cache.
@ggstudies I seem to be having no problem. Maybe try waiting for a bit.
Do you guys want to make a group chat?
hi!!! also a 2020 hopeful for TASP. haven’t gotten past the drafting stage for my essays, though… today is grind time for me, haha.
@frnchtoast - a group chat would be awesome!!!
in my favorite things section, i sort of have them separated into categories and then for movies/music i added a few sentences as to why i felt compelled to put it on my list. if you don’t mind sharing, how did you all do it?
good luck everyone! maybe one of us is getting an interview.
@frnchtoast a group chat is a good idea! I would like to be part of it!
For the favorite things question, I just did a list, with no description. Did anyone else do that? I’m a little worried now. Also, I’d be down for a group chat!
@FlameAlchemist I just did a list as well. I think a few years ago, the “list of favorites” question did ask people to elaborate, but now it doesn’t say that, so I don’t see why anyone would be penalized for just making a list with no description.
And I’m also down for a group chat!
Ok cool! Just pm me if you want to be added!
Idk how to pm but I would like to be added to the gc too
Me as well! I don’t think I can pm either
@starstray @adventure21 @FlameAlc @chrysalism
Just PM me and I’ll add you guys in! It’s going to be on groupme btw
@dancer128
I think you need to get 10 posts first and then you can PM people
@frnchtoast do we need to give phone numbers for a groupme chat?
@starstray No you don’t; I can just send you a link to join.
@frnchtoast I can’t for the life of me figure out where the pm button is, I think I haven’t hit the post requirement do you think you could shoot me a pm first?
@starstray Sure. Also I figured out that it’s 15 posts but I’ll send you and everyone else a PM with the link
