I did TASS '19 and for my application I gave one book and one movie and really went in-depth on why those two are my favorite. One of my other peers who got in just gave a list of a bunch of books, TV shows, and movies they liked so it’s really all up to you.
@YusukeUrameshi Were one of your essays much stronger than the others? Because I feel like that’s how mine is, and I don’t know if the imbalance would cause me to be rejected or something. My first essay is decent, my second one is much stronger, and my third one is a bit weak tbh. Also, how was the typical schedule for a day? Did you have time for other hobbies/relaxing? Do you guys write w/ regular pencil/pen and paper or use laptops and such?
3b is so hard to answer! my other essays are still so messy right now because i started a couple days ago (i didn’t know of TASS until like january 2). what is y’all’s general / average word count? my essays are pretty short & with the deadline approaching so soon, i’m scared
@akabeststressed my essays were all around 1100-1500. Good luck writing!
Good luck to everyone applying to TASS 2020! The deadline is officially 9ish hours away :o
@kso428 thank you! still not done LOL. good luck on your application process!
All of my essays were really solid, hence me making it past the first round, and I spent weeks working on them. Our days usually consisted of seminar, lunch, whatever activity was planned that day like study hall or free time, for example, dinner, meetings or pub speaks, and then curfew. We had quite a bit of time for relaxing and talking to our fellow TASSers as well. In my seminar, Black Feminist Thought, we had daily readings and wrote notes in class with notebooks. We didn’t really use laptops during seminar, it was really only outside of it for essays we did. There was no preference for pencil or pen, we were allowed to write with whatever we were comfortable with. Honestly, your best chance at getting past the first part is to have really strong essays across the board but if one of them falls flat it’s nothing to worry about.
Hi Guys! I applied for TASS 2020 too and I just submitted my application but some of my essays were a little sloppy although the content was pretty personal. Hopefully we all did well though.
I was planning on applying to TASS but I didn’t know the deadline was so close! I’m just going to have to wait a whole year and apply to TASP. Since I won’t be able to attend TASS do y’all think my chances at TASP are lower?
I also applied to TASS this year and I am not confident about my application at all. I really want to go but I don’t feel like I’m going to get an interview. It definitely wasn’t my best work and I’m really anxious the it. But good luck to everyone who applied.
Hi y’all!
Did anyone else get the interview notification? If yes, do y’all know if the interviews would take place in person or over Skype (if we live in a different country)? Thanks!
Hi @AndoverKid257 I am a TASS 19 alumna. I wasn’t from out of the country but my interview took place in person. A lot of my peers had interviews on skype, so I think it depends on whether there is a TASP or TASS alum in your area. Luckily I had one who lived a few minutes from me. Good Luck!!
@AndoverKid257 I got an interview notification today too. I’m so excited! They didn’t mention if it would be in person or over Skype but I think it would probably be over Skype if you live in a different country. Good Luck!
@dancer128 thanks for the info!
@LovableLegacies ah yes I was so excited when I got that email notif! Good luck to you too!
@YusukeUrameshi @dancer128 Would it be possible for y’all to share the general format of the interview and tips (ex. what types of questions they ask, do they ask about your “favorites” section, what qualities are they looking for in participants) ? I am having mine soon and I’m quite nervous, as I speak more eloquently on paper than in-person.
Thank you in advance!
How did your interview go @AndoverKid257 , mine was not the greatest
Hey guys! I think my interview went okay but I was really nervous at times and got asked insanely broad questions (my interviewer said that they were required to ask these questions)! My interviewer said I have a high chance of getting in so hopefully that means she’ll write a good report herself!! Good luck to everyone who has yet to take their interview!
@Rosey78987 Mine was not great either–I felt like I came off as a little arrogant/entitled which I think was a result of my nervousness. At this point, I realized that I’m probably not going to get it cuz I butchered my answers but I guess we’ll have to wait and see. Fingers crossed!
Also I just realized we know each other irl.
@AndoverKid257 Ugh I’m sorry to hear that, but I’m sure that you did well!! I hope you get in! Fingers crossed
@AndoverKid257 @@Rosey78987 and @zd2409 Hey guys sorry kinda of new here. I also got an interview, but I was wondering how long did yours last? I am so nervous and I can’t wait for results… When do you think results will come out?
