Tattoos- your thoughts on them

I don’t like them at all. Neither of my children has one, but one of my D’s best friend (a high school teacher) is covered in them. She would have to wear a turtleneck to hide them. Even though I don’t like her tattoos, I still like HER. To each his own.

I work with a woman who is nearly 59. She tried to be cool and impress her nieces or somebody a few years ago and got a tattoo on her ankle. She says it is a red rose. Now it is a black blob. Ugly.

Welcome to the CC Parent Cafe, where we debate everything with great care and civility, unlike most forums, and debate a number of things annually, like tattoos.

I do agree that neck tattoos are not attractive, even though one of my favorite characters on television proudly sports one.

[it says Heil Hitler](http://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20140128231140/justified/images/1/1c/Dewey_Crowe_infobox_2.JPG</a>)

They have no appeal to me. There more and more people with extensive tattoos… to me (and DH) it is not nice look. Occasionally we think same on fashion choices, but that is not permanent.

I am a little surprised at how many here are against (or don’t like) tattoos. For some reason I expected a more even split. My only hesitation for my own kids would be that society still judges and some jobs might be unavailable if they have visible tattoos. Other than that, I am more interested in my kids’ character than their looks. (That goes for other people, too.) My D has one and I did ask her to wait till she was older which she did not. It is not visible. I like small, creative tattoos but change my likes/dislikes frequently so would probably not get one.

From what I have seen, people I know with tattoos, love them.
They choose them carefully & they have meaning to them, ten or twenty or fifty years later.
As I mentioned on the other thread, my daughter got one when she turned 18.
It was from a good shop and was a symbol of a trip to Africa that meant alot to her.
It isnt going to keep her from being hired and if it did, then it wouldnt be the right place for her.

Kristen Bell on her tattoos.

My pet peeve is foot tattoos.

I think most of the posters on CC who aren’t opposed to tattoos have tired of this topic the first three or four times it arose.

Was just looking for the previous threads, MOWC.

“From what I have seen, people I know with tattoos, love them.

Well, duh, they have meaning to the people who get them - that’s why people get them. No one’s disputing that. I can acknowledge that but still not find it attractive. But, they might not find what I’m wearing or my haircut or my jewelry attractive either. Oh well.

Unless the thread is about a current event or a personal issue, how many threads on CC are truly original?

For me, the problem with tattoos is that once you are a certain distance away from the person all visible tattoos just look like blobs.

Two words: BODY VANDALISM

I’ll throw my hat into the ‘don’t like em’ category. That said, there is a world of difference between a sleeve, sock etc and a small hidden tattoo. In my area the sleeve, sock, full neck, full back, angel wings trend is extremely common. Sorry, I think that is a rather short sighted choice.

I do have a couple of questions…do men who get those full appendage tattoos have to keep their legs and arms shaved? It seems like those arms and legs are very smooth. Also, one of my kiddles (non tattooed as far as I know) says the colored ink needs to be renewed every so often because it fades. Is this true? If so, wow … talk about high maintenance.

My first tattoo (2000) has very vivid colors and has not faded AT ALL! Everyone tells me that is unusual and that my artist was particularly good. I guess I was lucky. It has needed no touching up and has yellow, blue, orange and green.

Is there an issue with MRI’s and tattoos?

There are certain images that are very meaningful to me. Some of them I keep in my wallet, others I have framed on the walls of my house, and others appear in a screen saver on my computer. I just don’t get why I would want to have one of them tattooed on my body.

This is an issue that comes up again and again, probably because there is always a new crop of kids getting old enough to want to get tattoos, and perhaps needing parental permission (or seeking approval). As you can see, tattoos are mainstream, but they are far from universally admired.

One suggestion: never get a tattoo or any other form of permanent body modification if the motive is to annoy another person.

My niece is a RN and she has a full back tattoo that goes from her shoulders to the back of her knees.
It is gorgeous and elaborate, but if I had a tattoo, I would want it somewhere I could see it & Im not that flexible & my vision isnt that great, to see one on my back.
I found this on how to create your own temporary tattoo.

OP here!!

For all of you who are lamenting the fact that the this topic has been brought up ad nauseam. I must admit, I never noticed it in my 3 years of residency here. Maybe I was too engrossed in the all important college admissions process to notice and to care about such an inane topic? Lol

Is this the sign of early empty nest syndrome? Interest in silly and totally asinine topics? I’ve finally made it! LOLOL WOOHOO!!! I’m finally free! My life is finally mine again!

Or fifteen or sixteen! :)
