Tea bags in?

somemom, we had one of those too. They used to host little girls birthday tea parties. So cute.

danceclass - the silk sachet tea bags are available from Harney & Sons. You can get them on-line and we also found them at Barnes and Noble during the holidays.

Thanks for sharing these and posting such a nice topic.

we have a wonderful place nearby that is an English teahouse. Beautiful victorian lacey tablecloths, mitchmatch china tea cups, teapots dispayed all over the place. Homemade tea sandwiches, salads, soups and scones with cream and fruits and a cozy fireplace.

Oh my - this thread makes me want to dust off the tea pot and infuser and buy some spectacular loose tea! Some of my favorite childhood memories are Devon Cream Teas with my English grandparents in Dartmoor. I have never been able to get a good Devon Cream Tea in the US despite visiting dozens of tea houses here. OP - thanks for the thread!

I had a dear friend who always said that life was too short to drink cheap tea! I use a teapot. Actually I have two–one large traditional one in which the leaves float freely and a small Bee House one with a built-in infuser. It brews a 12oz. cup. I am an AM coffee-er and a PM tea-er. I love Kusmi Prince Vladimir, Mariage Freres Earl Grey Blue Flower and Palais des Thes Des Moines. I’ve been lucky enough to have traveling friends shop for me. My fantasy is to go to Paris with an extra, empty suitcase. I was there a number of years ago, but did not buy enough! BTW, my Jewish Russian grandma served tea in a glass. Gosh, that brings back memories.

milkandsugar, I am sooooo jealous! I’m ready to book a red-eye flight for tonight …… could have lunch there tomorrow. Is this place in the city?

It is located in the Hudson river-town of Peekskill, NY, about 40 miles north of NYC, right on the Hudson River Metro North train
Kathleen’s Tea Room.

I’ll bet there wasn’t a tea bag in site here :-)

[Queen, Kate, Camilla take tea at Fortnum & Mason - Yahoo! News](http://news.yahoo.com/queen-kate-camilla-tea-fortnum-mason-140529473.html)

Sarah Lawrence College has the prettiest tea room in the center of campus. Or did when we visited 5 years ago.

Yeah, my grandparents use to drink it the same way. They actually loved to drink in that style. And they still drink it the same way.

My new DIL is British – no tea bags for her! She brought her own supply over when she arrived in August. She then developed a kidney stone in September and her US doc in CA told her she couldn’t have tea any more. Righteous indignation does not begin to describe it!

She is now drinking lots of water so that she can have tea periodically. I would love to buy her a tea pot, but I don’t know if she has one or wants one from home.

S2 was in Russia this summer and had hot tea in a glass.

If any of you are in Victoria, BC – go do high tea at the Empress Hotel. Pricey, but quite the experience. We went in 1989 and I still have my tea trivet!

Funny that this thread should be resurrected. We just visited DS#1 and his gf for Thanksgiving and brought them loose tea brewing cups and teas [url=<a href=“http://www.teaforte.com/store/tea-gifts/specials-gifts/kati-tea-brewing-system/]Kati”>http://www.teaforte.com/store/tea-gifts/specials-gifts/kati-tea-brewing-system/]Kati Tea Brewing System by Tea Fort

Since buying one of these: [MSR MugMate Coffee/Tea Filter - Free Shipping at REI.com](http://www.rei.com/product/726094/msr-mugmate-coffeetea-filter) I have completely switched to loose tea. It doesn’t leave bits in the cup, it’s easy to clean, it isn’t finicky, and I don’t have to worry about the paper and strings etc. in the compost.

Whe I use teabags, I take the bag out of the cup after it’s steeped. For my last birthday, DH bought me some nice loose teas, so I’ve been brewing them. I’m no longer a coffee drinker, so I go through alot of tea.

dmd77 - thanks for the link - now D2 has a nice hanukkah gift.

And for the record, I don’t always use teabags but when I do, I take them out as soon as the tea has steeped to my liking.

Just bought my mom’s Jamaican aide a nice stone tea pot with infuser and a tin of loose Irish breakfast tea for her birthday. I should have bought one for myself as well! I never drink a cuppa with the bag still in.

Get her a tea cosy to go with that. :)

I have stopped using teabags since I discovered (from a thread on CC) the benefits of loose tea. I’ve been buying it from Teavana, but would love to find another source.

When I bought tea there, they said that it must be kept in a tin, or it will go bad within a week. I have 3 of their tins and keep several packages of various kinds of teas in each, except for one that is filled with the wild orange herbal tea, which is fantastic.

Can anyone recommend online sources? Is Tea Forte good? I see that they have quite a few loose teas in cannisters (which I assume are tins?)

I have a lovely cast iron teapot with built-in infuser, but lately I’ve been making larger quantities because my sons are drinking it, too. So I’m just putting the tea in the pan that I used to boil the water, then pouring it through a strainer into a glass pitcher after it’s steeped the correct amount of time. I slavishly follow the directions for water temperature, amount of tea/water, and steeping time.

I’m tempted to drive to Peekskill to visit that teashop!

I sometimes am too lazy to remove the bag if I’m drinking green/white/green+jasmine tea but then I like those lighter teas stronger anyway. For black and oolong, however, I remove the bag once the two or three minutes of steeping time is up. If I leave the bag in the mug as I’m drinking and I don’t finish it right away I sometimes find this oily, icky layer floating on the surface, staining the sides of the cup and probably my teeth as well. Ew.
