Lol I just been reading this thread and do I seriously hear people comparing communism and socialism??? Communism = politics. Socialism = economics! It’s perfectly possible to support a socialist economic system in a democracy (Sweden) or a capitalist economic system in a communist country (china).

PS to the above post: obviously Sweden and china aren’t perfect examples, but they are quite accurate. Furthermore, nowadays many countries have a kind fusion between capitalism and socialism (much of western Europe).

Agreed. Whether you listen to Glen Beck or not is irrelevant. I’ve read Greenspan’s Age of Turbulence, that doesn’t make me a staunch Libertarian.

And Jason hasn’t really said anything moronic–I should take that back. He just doesn’t read others’ posts.

^^True. It was a bad example. My point was that some of his points reminded me of Beck/Palin’s points, which in themselves don’t make any sense to me.

I’m not trying to be an elitist, or say that only people with a college education can voice an opinion. You are putting words into my mouth. I am saying that your arguments seem bizarre and unfounded, and I am surprised that someone with a degree in the subject demonstrates such limited understanding of different political systems. My apologies if that came off incorrectly.

PS…I apologize in advance for my ignorance…but who is Maddow? I’ve never even heard of him, and only vaguely heard of Olberman. And I’m a moderate Obama supporter - I support and agree with many of his social ideas, but I don’t agree with some of his fiscal policies or the continuation of the war in the Middle East. I see myself as a moderate leaning liberal.

Just curious, how often do you listen to Beck?

He’s probably my least favorite out of the Conservative bunch. I do like Palin and I think it was pretty shameful what the media did to her and how they got away with it (attcking her children).

I understand why liberals don’t like Palin though, I mean - the fact that she didn’t abort her mentally ill baby is proof enough of what a nut she is, right?

“attacking her children”

Obama didn’t trump his kids around while he was campaigning, unlink Palin. His children stayed in school… what a wild idea right?. Heck Palin used her mentally ■■■■■■■■ baby as a cheap prop against healthcare reform claiming he would be judged by a “death panel” as to whether he should get care or not. Clearly she decided her kids were not off bounds, she initiated it by keeping them in the picture the whole time.

I certainly never saw her “trump” her kids around on the campaign. In fact, the only time I ever really saw them was at the Republican Convention when the whole family came on stage after her speech - which is exactly what Obama did with his wife and two daughters.

And for arguments sake, let’s pretend she did “trump” her kids around on the campaign. Don’t you think that “adults” in the media would have the respect not to go after them like that?

Either way - pretty pathetic behavior.

Got to love the shots at Maddow, when conservatives think people like Hannity or Beck are some kind of political geniuses. Rachel Maddow got a PHD in politics from Oxford as a rhodes scholar. People on CC should be able to appreciate that. Glen beck is an ex-alcoholic that used to have a morning zoo radio show. Who do you think would be a better authority on politics?

I remember Glenn Beck mimicking Obama’s daughter after the BP press release. He did apologize. People speak too quickly, sometimes.

Unfortunately for you, Maddow is a lesbian, so you’ve started quite the ruckus.
Both are MSNBC anchors who are strongly liberal. Olberman less so, arguably.

I haven’t seen it, but if it was mean spirited he should be ashamed.

Families have always been “off limits” for the media, usually - especially kids, but the changed the rules for Palins kids.

John McCain:
"“Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly?” he asked guests at a Senate Republican fundraiser. “Because her father is Janet Reno.” "

we should probably discount this though because we all know mccain can’t keep from sticking his foot in his mouth every few months or so. it gets hard to keep it straight when you flip-flop so often it seems. thank god we dodged that bullet.

Again, the Elitist attitude seeping from the left.

HE DIDN’T GO TO OXFORD, WHAT GIVES HIM THE RIGHT TO TALK ABOUT POLITICS!!!

Bill O’Rielly went to Harvard.

Keith Olberman (Cornell) spent his entire career making corky jokes on Sportscenter, so I guess he shouldn’t be entitled to an opinion either?

Ann Coulter gradudated Cum Laude from Cornell, then went to law school at the University of Michigan and was editor of their law review.

Stupid logic. Lot’s of people with great degrees are idiots.

great degrees? do you really not understand how someone getting a PHD in politics makes them a better authority ON POLITICS than someone with a BA in history and a MA in public administration or someone with a law degree? well, I guess I understand why you like palin. you guys are obviously on the same level of thinking.

Well, then we should make it a law that only people with PHD’s in Politics can run for office, right?

By that logic, perhaps we should throw Obama out of office and just make Maddow president, because by your standards she’s much more qualified.

being an actual politician is about representing the wants of your constituents. they don’t just make ‘qualified decisions’ based on their own opinions.

when it comes to media persons analyzing and interpreting whats going on in politics, as we were actually discussing, it helps if they know what the hell they’re talking about.

Ok, so a person can be qualified to be a politician but not to talk about politics.

not sure how you came to that conclusion from what i’d written. if anything it was the exact opposite, lol

the media isn’t ‘just talking about politics’. the PEOPLE make the decisions with their VOTES, many based on the information they receive from these media figures. who cares how qualified the politician who signs the bill into law is? i’d argue it’s a lot more important that the people who dish out the information to the voters are well informed and not just spewing out their own unbased opinions as fact.

Well informed doesn’t not equate to unbaised or objective. Individuals with PHDs in political science range from far left to far right to near the middle. Just because Maddow is well informed or well educated doesn’t imply that she is objective, far from it. People who listen to Beck or Maddow or any other commentator can analyze the news within the context of its commentator.
