Teach For America 2012 Corps

@sunnyseattle: you are probalby right about a big influx of TF applications. i didn’t even think about that.
@rayjay: i know that DC is hugely popular, but i do not know about the popularity of baltimore & delaware :/

I have two Yes’s for the top sections. And two N/A’s for the lower part of the table. I dont think we should read into it all that much!

I only put in the basics for TF. If I’m accepted then I’ll send in the required documents.

Strangely enough I am calm about this now. If I am accepted that will be a dream come true. If I am not accepted I will be very disappointed but it will not be the end of the world. I will re-apply and have everything done early for the first deadline for 2013 :)

In the mean time I will continue doing what I am doing and take on new challenges to help me be better in the process next year.

Fortunately I am working all day Thursday with a very challenging schedule of to do items. I will have no option but to concentrate on that as they are “critical” items for the business.

Best wishes to all the obviously qualified candidates that made it to the final interview, who care about giving children the best education possible and are on tenterhooks.

I hate to be a Debbie Downer but according to the blog, “this year, over 60% of my accepted corps members were re-applicants” does not make me feel good at all! So, as a first time applicant, the approximate 10% chance of being accepted has now been cut into a 4% chance since 60% are reapplicants. Unless of course I’m reading into the stats incorrectly… But really not feeling good right now… Geez, this waiting game is seriously annoying…

That’s weird. I only have a tax return/FAFSA field. I don’t have Pell grants so that wouldn’t show. Can someone tell me what the other categories are?

@nyricangirl i saw that statistic too & read it the same way. eek!

i hope these 48 hours fly by …

I am feeling increasingly confident that I won’t be accepted to TFA. I didn’t “click” with my interviewer the way that some others have said they did and I felt that I fumbled through part of the interview. But either way things will be fine next year :)

also, none of us should forget–the 2013 application begins in just four months!! :)

Now is this 60% of the WHOLE 2012 corps or was it for a specific region?

My TFA status hasn’t changed at all…I am pretty sure that I am not getting in…at least not THIS time around! I will be applying for the next year if I don’t get in this year.

Listening to this right now. Interesting podcast on TFA.

[Education Radio: The Sham of Teach for America: Part One](http://education-radio.blogspot.com/2012/04/sham-of-teach-for-america-part-on.html)

@tfaaman- good point! I’m not sure if this is for the entire 2012 corps, that just doesn’t make sense! Lol he kept saying “my corps members” which makes me think it’s a region.

@educatedbrotha: true! unless he considers the entire corps his own lololol

The TFA website says only 23% of corps members worked full-time or went to grad school after graduating undergrad. Somehow that doesn’t jive with this 60% figure of second-time applicants. Maybe the author has a special case for his recruitment area or something, but I am skeptical about that number/don’t really get it!

@wonderstruck-LOL!!!

I’ve been creeping this blog invisibly for quite some time now so I decided to just go ahead and log in and join in LOL. Anyways I’m so nervous and excited for Thursday…and like many of you my confidence has gone down tremendously regarding how I feel about being accepted…I’m going for bilingual spanish education, and I check marked the box saying that my teaching subject is more important to me than my region placement…Good luck everyone! Whatever is meant to be will happen :)

Welcome, fm307707! Glad to have you join us in our group therapy session!

And 55 more hours…

For those of you who are freaked out about your TF status, I hope I can make you feel a little better. I don’t want to get hopes up, but we all know how precise TFA admissions is. Everything is timed to the minute, and it moves so swiftly. This, and the sheer number of applicants they have, lead me to believe that they would not have their Transitional Funding team working on TF apps of those who had been rejected. My guess is that your regional team (of the region whose office oversaw your interview–seattle, for me) starts processing your final interview stats as soon as they are in (meaning they don’t wait for the last day of interviews to finish before they start crunching), and so some peoples statuses change earlier, based on when the regional office calculates your compatibility. So, what I’m trying to say is–if they were going to reject you, as mechanic as they are, they would NOT waste the man power processing your TF info if you were going to be rejected! However, we do know that supervisors pull random “approved” applicant files for review, and so perhaps the one freak case of a TF complete status being rejected fell into this category.

And, remember, there are SO many ways to help the world, this is one of them. I will be CRUSHED if I don’t make it, but I can channel my energies elsewhere and achieve great things, and reapply at a later time. The newest blog was scarey, but it’s true–some of us really may not be ready. Try again–it’ll count towards your perseverance score : )

gahhh sorry for the long post! but don’t stress, life is beautiful! the universe will see that you get where you need to go!

@katrina5dl: The supervisors and “appellate review” or whatever! That’s an excellent explanation for that one case in 4DL where their status changed to complete but they weren’t accepted. Kudos to you for putting that together. Love your attitude towards this, keep it up!

Thank you for the encouraging words. I agree with you. Even though TFA is a great way to solve the education inequalities present in the U.S., it is not the only way we can help achieve a solution.

Let’s hope for the best for each of us.

I am really wondering what it actually means if the Transitional Funding application has been “Approved.” Any guesses?

Has your TF application been approved?
