I know…I need to take some tests for Ed grad school and I am wondering if I should sign up. I was thinking of emailing admissions and asking if I took some of my state’s licensure exams if they would transfer to other regions(?).

Hey, just in case… what all paperwork needs to be submitted for Transitional Assistance, and anything else if invited for Final Interview? I think I am trying to anticipate all of this in case of invitation because of how short a time we would have to get everything together. I put down Portland, Seattle and Eugene as preferred locations for interview, and I know the interviews are Apr 1-5 and final determination on Apr 18. When do we have to post our preferences? Are all of these supposed to be in before the interview? I have been kicking ideas around for a 5 minute lesson and all of the ones I come up with seem a bit dumb on reflection! Anyway… has ANYone gotten South Dakota this year? I have searched and cannot find anyone on here that has gotten it!

@ssgtbam — If invited to a final interview, you will need to upload your college transcripts, coursework info, and eligibility documents (license, birth certificate, etc.). Also, if you apply for Transitional Funding, you’ll have to submit a few extra things, including your current student loan balance, an estimate of how much money you and/or your parents have contributed to your college education outside of loans/tuition/grants, and how much money you currently have in a savings or checking account, plus how much debt you owe, if any. It sounds like a lot, but the form is actually really simple to fill out … MUCH easier than applying for financial aid in college, if you know anything about that.

10 hours or less to go!

Cali…I really am not that interested in staying here in Pdx, I want to experience some change in where I live for the next couple of years or longer. I also prefer rural to urban, and I have used all the financial aid available to me…I am a lifetime learner, a bit older than most (have yet to find anyone older at TFA), and I really am hoping for the best! Sure would like Alaska, but am not really thinking that is going to happen this year. I do not think I would want to necessarily be on the first up at bat as far as a new site (would rather have gotten my feet a bit wet first, I suppose!). Where are you leaving from and headed to? Caravan of TFA’s sounds like a blast!

TFAtarheel… What is meant by coursework info? What about tax returns? Do the transcripts have to be certified and electronically delivered from our colleges? Do you have to do Praxis testing before institute?

Good luck to all the others in the 5DL!

Well, today is the day that the 5DL people find out if we get final interviews!

I am nervous and excited for today :).

Good Luck to us all! Nervous and excited, as well!

Did not advance to Final Interview! Here’s hoping for the rest of you!

Good Luck! I WILL reapply in August!

Hi everyone. I am new on here. I just got word that I am advancing to final interview. I am soooooo excited. I live in northern New Jersey so I will most likely be going to an interview day in New York City. Anyone else?

No email yet…Where did you check?

I logged right into the website. I found out early that way too for the phone interview. Emails don’t go out till 6pm but I guess they upload it online first.

Okay, I just tried to get onto the website and it wouldn’t let me.

Now, I am going to go crazy…

And I have class at 5:30…do I check in class tonight or wait…

I finally got in and I did not get it…

I do not know if I will reapply for next year…I guess I should go ahead and finish registering for classes.

So sorry. But I would def re-apply next year if this is definitely something you want to do. If I’m not accepted I def will.

Ssgtbam - sorry to hear that What is your educational background, if you don’t mind me asking? I was in the recruitment process with a national youth services agency that I ended up declining the offer with to take this one. They were looking to place me in the gulf, but they also serve several rural areas in the Midwest. They asked if I could refer anyone qualified. PM me if interested. For teaching, there is also TNTP. Their regions function a little more independently - I had both Indianapolis and NOLA calling me directly, but I felt more comfortable with TFA. I think some of their regions might have one more deadline left this year…? If nothing else, August is literally right around the corner! Chin up!

Bekkah…any word??

TLMM12 - glad you found us! I was in fourth DL and found out last week that the next chapter of my life will be in the Mississippi Delta! VERY crazy prospect for a Californian born and raised, and I feel overwhelmed by everything I have to do (Praxis tests, moving plans…everything!). But it’s an exciting learning opportunity!

Good luck on your final interview and feel free to msg me if you have any questions/concerns. I really feel for you guys in this last deadline because this process can get nerve wracking, and acceptance will mean some major life changes in a very short time!

What are you thinking on your regional preferences form? That’s the fun part! ;)

I’m taking my first Praxis Test tomorrow. For others in the Delta, I decided to do the Elementary Curriculum first because it’s the only one that doesn’t have MATH. Well…it has a couple slightly math-related questions, which I am prepared to miss. LOL Uuuuhhhh… Haven’t been doing much math in law school…I feel so rusty!! LOL Wish me luck and I’ll let you know how it goes!

Awww bekkah - I’m sorry, just saw your post.

Please see my last message for ssgtbam about other options. Also if you are under 25 (which I’m not…and if I could go back in time I would probably do this…) you can apply to City Year. I’ve heard it helps for getting into TFA. They’re looking for more recent grads to work in inner city schools as an AmeriCorps worker for a year. It doesn’t pay much, but there’s some good education perks and I’m sure it’s very fulfilling work. If not that, then you can also look at tutoring or finding a leadership type volunteer position with youth to beef up your qualifications for next year.

I don’t know if you had a chance to listen to the webinar on this, but there are a lot of people who don’t get in the first time, try again, and not only make it but end up being some of TFA’s best and brightest. TFA appreciates the perseverance that shows. Good luck and feel free to write me if I can be of help in the future!

I am already in an education program and I don’t want to take a year off to do City Year. If I got this last year, I know I would apply for city year.

Its hard, I am stuck because I love teaching and I want to be a teacher now. I will be a teacher, I have fabulous relationships with my students that I work with and I want to succeed.

Yes I definitely will I always have questions lol so I will be on here regularly. I really really appreciate the support! My interview will be in NYC on April 3rd. In terms of regional preference I haven’t even had time to look at the form yet and the website must be jammed due to high volume cause I can’t get in. But I did hear someone say you have to limit it to 10 -_- Sooooo I guess for highly preferred- Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston, Newark, Philadelphia Preferred- Cleveland, D.C. Delaware, New York City & least preferred- Seattle, Rhode Island. I’ve lived in NYC/N. NJ my whole life so I’m really really hoping to be able to relocate to Texas. That’s what I’d most want.
