Tecchie folks-- Issue with a HP touchscreen laptop and HP employees out there??

Well if they read this thread I’d like to have them fix my printer. It only talks to the computers for about five minutes max. In order to print anything you have to turn it off and turn it back on every single time. It sucks.

Might be a longshot, but I’ll ask anyways. Did you buy that HP less than 90 days ago? If so, you can simply return it to Costco for a no questions asked refund and opt to buy an identical replacement or a different model from them.

Several friends raved about this policy and used it to test-drive different notebook models before settling on the one they decided to keep.

The build quality/QC of HP’s computers went downhill rapidly once they merged with Compaq sometime in the early 00s. Pretty sad as the pre-merger HP machines were built very well and some I used to own are still running to this day with their current owners.

Unfortunately, many other PC manufacturers have also been cutting serious corners though HP does stand out IME as one of the worst in this regard.

^^She said it was over a year old.

Motherofdragons is correct. I am well aware of the 90 day warranty for electronics at Costco. Unfortunately it is not relevant in this case. That said, the computer was paid for with the AmEx Costco card, which offers an additional year warranty. That card, however, no longer exists. Thats not an issue at present as the laptop is currently covered under the HP 2 year warranty.

If you paid for the computer with the AmEx Costco card, wouldn’t the additional year warranty still be in effect as it was part of the contract at the time it was initiated/executed?

I’m not sure Costco ending the AmEX Costco card would negate that. Can lawyers chime in either way?

Costco extends the manufacturer’s warranty on computers to two years regardless of what credit card you use.

However, with the use of certain credit cards like AMEX, one can be provided with an additional one year warranty on top of that up to 5 years. So in the case of the 2 year Costco warranty,…using the Amex would grant an extra year for a total of 3 years or in the case of a friend’s purchase of a macbook with applecare, 4 total years with Applecare.

This was what allowed my friends and I to get an additional 1 year warranty on top of other warranties…including add-ons like Applecare. Only minor snag is that for that final year, you need to go through Amex to get the warranty honored, but they tended to be very quick and professional with the few friends who needed to use that additional year warranty.

Costco is saying this is a manufacturers warranty issue, not a costco warranty issue. It would probably be an AmEx issue, not a Costco issue.

I will have to recheck the costco warranty to be sure they arent claiming that the “touchscreen tablet” which is excluded is not also meaning touchscreen computers.
