@mathmom , my father went to PEA because his mother, especially, was concerned that he was very smart but wasn’t applying himself so they applied for a “local student” scholarship. SHe was a well-known legislator and I think that worked in his favor too.
In his aunt’s scrapbook, we found a letter she saved from teenage Dad, begging her to reason with his mother and not send him to PEA because there were no girls there…
