^^^^Do you suppose it could be our kids, and not old age, which causes our hair to turn gray? :)

Bumping this back up to see if anyone has new ideas on dog doors that will keep a cat in. We’re renovating a house and want to install a dog door in the exterior door to the laundry room. We have an indoor cat who would love to escape into the wild but we really don’t want him out. Our dog is medium-sized, about 35 pounds.

I found this option - has anyone used it or something similar?

[Hale Pet Door - Cat Guardian](<a href=“Shop the Best Dog Doors & Cat Doors | Hale Pet Door”>Shop the Best Dog Doors & Cat Doors | Hale Pet Door)

You are looking for “Ani Mate Inc - Electromagnetic Dog Door/ White” … it comes with a magnetic key that your dog wears on his collar. Without the magnet/key, the door won’t open. It should retail between $100-150. In my store it would sell around $130. It is currently out of stock at my distributor, so who knows if it’s discontinued or just an ordinary OOS.

I’ll check it out, thanks!

If a dog or cat learns to use the “CitiKitty” system, they won’t need a doggy door to go outside–they can “go” inside.

I have had cat doors for my detatched garage so that my outdoor cats could get in from the cold and rain. I wouldn’t want one on my house though…out of fear that something unwanted would get in. Plus, I am not comfortable with my dogs going out on their own. While my yard is fenced , there are five gates and the landscaper , meter reader , pool guys aren’t always as careful as they should be when it comes to securing them. Also , my low rider dogs are not natural swimmers, and I fear them falling in and accidentally drowning…so we will stick to our current system of them going out the regular way
