Telluride Association Summer Program ( TASP ) 2008

Best way to take over a country? Good old fashioned religion; once you get the natives to believe your god/gods/higher force, you’ve got them right in your hand. Winkism comes to mind as a possible religion we could use…

As far as I know, Michigan just as cherries and apples, mainly. And corn. And navy beans (haha).

Is the best way to maintain dictatorial power through love or fear?

you dont find kiwi slimy?

fear scare em enough they wont do anything. but not too much fear or they will try and be heroes against the oppressor. it has to be that balance where its all they know but they still hate it.

Just looked it up, and New York’s state fruit is the apple too! Have you ever had a New York apple? They’re really wonderful if you can get them fresh. Even months later, they’re great. They have a whole boatload of flavor, unlike the Red Delicious apples Washingtonians usually export. Macouns, empires, jonagolds, crispins, interesting local antique varieties like Cox Orange Pippins, which don’t keep or ship well but are like the best in the world for eating.

Can’t stand grapefruit. Too bitter. Used to hate pineapple for no particular reason, now I love it. Cherries might be my favorite, though. So juicy and flavorful, just sweet enough but not over powerfully so… But again, gotta be fresh.

The leader has to be supremely charismatic and likable. It’s best if there’s a huge problem in the country that he manages to find a solution for- if he can get just a little sacrifice rights-wise from the people. Cycle continues until people have no rights and no means of resisting the government. Then he laughs maniacally often.

Love, baby! Seriously, look at North Korea, they adore their leader 8 ways from Sunday because of all of their brainwashing.

panic-
So, basically, have the people fear (even hate) you so you have control over them, but maintain enough military power or religious influence that they are too scared stupid to do anything about it?

then brainwashing is really the answer.

fridge: damn skippy. but hudson’s way could work. i mean look at castro.

and i find it interesting that you pop up donny when the use of love comes up.

Haha, apparently our good friend Kim Jong Il was “elected” with 100% of the vote. Hmm…I wonder how that happened?

Brainwashing is good too. If you can convince the people that you are God or have some sort of divine right…

Plan A
annihilate the capital. wait for anarchy and economic corruption. insert your own “candidate” for leadership. promise to rebuild industry. move in your coorporations. give the people “protection” and move in your army.

Plan B
introduce a disease people in your country are immune to. use it to kill off the government and military people. move your army in to “rescue” and cure people of illness.

lol. if the FBI were to read this thread, we’d be in deep $hit

about the dictators - both. like cira said, solve a big problem, so people won’t care about rights taken away. at the same time use an ever increasing army to solve the problems so people adore you and send their sons to the army. kinda like augustus

If you use love, you have to ensure that they love you more than anything else- their children, their partners, their jobs or hobbies or anything. If the people love anything more than you they will choose it over you.

Elmo: Next topic: most efficient way to build a bomb in your basement, then!

Is it strange that i find the word “brainwashing” soothing? I get a mentally image of a nice old lady taking out my brain, washing it, then putting it back in my head, all the while saying, “Reeelaaax…everything is going to be okay…”
I just realized why I love getting a haircut. It’s the closest I can ever come to this fantasy while still being in reality. Interesting…

yeah so brainwashing or hate.
and they are probably watching. patriot act and all that. someone is watching. they might put in a decoy to egg us on too. or maybe im paranoid. and who would accuse some innocent teens right??
( dude, my thoughts are so broken up; my english teacher would freak)

wow hudson, your gonna be that kid who was abducted by aliens…

Donny, you make me giggle a little. Like the British woman in the new Cheer commericial? “Well, dearie, looks like your cerebral cortex has a right case of the dingies! We’ll have it brightened up in a jiff.”

So who’s the decoy? Dun dun dunnnnn…

Or at the very least, ghosts. (:

lol right. mmm good question ::looks shiftily at her computer screen::

I bet it’s Donny. He disarms us by making us think he’s a Floridian who watches Sex in the City, and therefore, fairly well removed from the FBI computer geeks, so it’s the perfect guise.

ahhh i must agree. or maybe it is you because you came up with the bomb in the basement idea, i dont even have a basement!!!
