Telluride Association Summer Program ( TASP ) 2008

Elmo, you’ll have to talk to Fridge about that.

Plant sex- fun!

Donny, I need one of your cookies right about now. I have lunch in half an hour and I’m starving. Yeah, it’s ridiculously early and it sucks.

Huzzah! I get to go on a Physics field trip to see Michio Kaku give a talk on qunatum mechanics!

I wish I had any idea what half of the words in that sentence even mean, cira

Well, it should be quantum mechanics, but I only noticed the typo after twenty minutes so I couldn’t fix it anymore. Quantum mechanics could best be described as crazy bull feces, unless you have a Ph.D in it, in which case it makes sense. He’s going to talk about theoretical time travel and “reading the mind of God,” and I have no idea what it means but I am very excited about it. Michio Kaku is a pretty sweet name. I think there’s a documentary about it which you can watch on the Nova website (here http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/elegant/program.html</a> ) It’s pretty sweet and just informative enough. I’ve also watched this flash animation about the 10 dimensions which kind of left me with an overloaded brain, but it was pretty sweet anyway. Ten dimensions! It’s crazytalk! I could find it for you if you’re interested at all.

I’m barely dealing with the 3rd dimension, what with the anxiety of TASP, so I think I’ll pass on the tenth. (:

Quantum Mechanics is literally the only aspect of physics I actually enjoyed. It’s all so interesting! I actually used Schrodinger’s Cat in one of my TASP essays…

I’m more of a Biology person myself, though.

Schrodinger’s Cat. It sounds familiar. Doesn’t have to do with a theoretical cat in a theoretical box? I feel so not in the know…

Yeah, Donny, it’s like that. I might know the basic premise, but I don’t know the correlation to quantum mechanics, so I’m no help there…

How was your day, everyone?

D+ on A.P. Spanish Test, so I’m rockin’ hard. Also, sent an email to collegeboard asking for more info on their National Hispanic Recognition Program(they’re very slim on the details on the website).

How 'bout everybody else?

Oh yeah! Ate all of the left-over cookies(6) as soon as I got home because of the D+…):

Aww, that sucks. I’m pretty sure I did about as well on my Chem test last week… She called it a quiz all week and it was a two day test manifesto. Blergh.

And I have a lot of reading to do because of another quiz in APUSH, and I’ve my pre-calc midterm for quite possibly the rest of the week. Maybe only three days… I always screw up the synthetic division somehow.

wow you guys GET D+s? our school only has ABCD. No D+. haha

I’m loving this quantum mechanics film; it talks to me like I’m an idiot, just how I like it. (:

Wow, saying you have a full plate is an understatement.

Hey, papercrane! Long time no see.

My school is numerical, 0-100. Hopefully not too many zeros. And technically, you can have more than 100, but only for ranking purposes.

So I’m signing up for next year’s classes this week (With a new guidance counselor! It’s awful. My old one just retired, and she wasn’t actually good or anything, but at least she knew a little bit about me.) and I think I’m taking like 7.5 or 8.5 classes. Which I might not be able to do because of labs and also Yearbook… I just don’t want to not take any of them. It sucks. I wish we had ten periods.

Eh, might as well list them for your ridicule/enjoyment: SUNY University Physics (Second year, maybe you’ll actually learn something Physics in other words), SUNY Health, SUNY Non-fiction Writing, Psychology and Sociology, AP Government, Statistics, Calculus, AP English, I have to take PE and if they offer it. I’ll try to take Latin 5. It’ll be a great year. Grin.

lol, hi!! I just cannot keep up with this thread… too many other things to do, but… hi! I can’t wait for interviews… well… if i get one…

my school is numerical but it’s like
90-100 = A
80-89= B
… yeah

and then we have some weighting for AP classes only but it’s weird.

Regents classes are weighted 1.02, and most college credit classes are 1.04. It doesn’t show up on your transcript though, which kind of sucks. I think every class I’m taking next year is for credit, my parents are going to freak out when they see how much it’s gonna cost.

I feel like an idiot. i try and understand those stuff for my school, but it’s just is too burdensome to remember. I just try my hardest…and end up witha couple of D+ along the way. (:

Have either of you done one of those “chance me” threads? I just stumbled upon them, still new to cc and everything.

No, not yet. I’m too afraid. I have weak EC’s, and I figure I should probably wait until I have more test scores. I only have PSATs (which were good) and the PLAN (which I sucked at.)

Que es PLAN?

Pre-ACT. You take it in 10th grade, usually. I guess it stills kind of depends on the region- Midwest for ACT and PLAN, SAT and PSAT everywhere else. If you did alright on the SAT or PSAT I wouldn’t bother with the ACT. Sometimes girls take it because males have a slight statistical advantage on the SAT.
