Telluride Association Summer Program ( TASP ) 2008

im on here

I’m still hanging around/researching colleges.

Somebody else have an idea of a debate, I’m kinda distracted

ooo what schools donny?

You guys seem a lot more college-minded than I am. The only university I’ve really “visited” is UMich-AA…because it’s like 20 minutes away from where I live…

Even so, I haven’t taken an actual tour, just wandered around the campus and Ann Arbor.

Bionic woman: [Bionic Woman](<a href=“Next Nature Network”>Next Nature Network)

What do you guys feel about future bionic technology? It could be used to enhance sensory perception, increase muscular strength and endurance… Basically create superhumans. Thoughts?

Deep Springs, Cornell, Emory, and University of Florida at the moment. I need to get some safeties though, all of them are pretty much reaches for me seeing as I don’t have amazing EC and only scored 1240 outta the 1600 scale the first time I took the SAT’s. I’m hoping that my status as a Hispanic Scholar, a Commended Student in the NMS competition, an AP Scholar with Honors, and being in the top 3% of my class will be what drives me home because these four things are all I’ve got going for me that I think is “exceptional.”

Wow, it felt really good to get that off my chest. Seriously, I suggest you guys just blurt out all of your college feelings; it’s very cathartic.

i think it is a option that in some cases could fall in line with the bioengineering convo we had. but it could also be a better option to prosthetics.and the only school ive been to is umich. and the city of ann arbor in general. it seemed pretty awesome.

and wow your kind of amazing huh donny. and get some Florida schools for safeties that what i have. and Emory mmmmm. i really dont have anything going for me. hopefully i can get into national achievement (cuz no way did i make NMS) and besides that i dunno. i dont think if i was a college i would want myself. but dont tell the colleges.
college admission thoughts just feed my fear of failure. pfft totally not healthy.

Earil -

Using this technology to return some sense of normality to the lives of amputees and other injured people could potentially benefit.

Creating superhumans for the sake of national defense or just to be cool or whatever would be a bad idea. Hopefully this technology won’t be abused…

…But knowing us, it will.

Colleges:

I have none on my list except UMich and MSU (in-state = helluva lot cheaper for me with the educational trust and state scholarships) but UMich is too close to home and both are too big; I’d rather avoid them. I tentatively consider these safeties because in-state acceptance is so high. Out of state, I’m thinking about UChicago. My UW GPA is a 3.95 or something (damn calculus), PSAT = 219, no SAT, the last ACT I took (freshman year) I scored a 30 (no studying), I’m taking it again in March for the MME, and have a few ECs and several leadership positions…There is my life’s summary.

I’m Asian, which will probably ultimately work against me.

I am awaiting the cathartic moment…looking back at that last paragraph only makes me feel a little sick :)

Cornell (Telluride House please please please save me from years of painful loan repayment…) Brown (So beautiful! So lenient!) Princeton (Bonnie Bassler is pretty much doing the most interesting research I know about right now)… Of course, I’d give an arm and a leg to get into Harvard or Yale or any of the above, really. Finding safety schools is kind of tough for me, since I want science and research, but I don’t want a ginormous school, so it kind of needs to be very well endowed so it can stay small and still have whatever science stuff it has and most places aren’t… I’ve thought about Colgate, but I don’t know if I want to go to somewhere completely out in the sticks… Then again, I could do that and go to a city-ish college for graduate school, which isn’t a non-option for me. I want to get my Ph.D in something… I haven’t taken the real SATs yet, which is freaking me out a little. I got a 226 on the PSATs, 78 CW 73 Math and 75 writing skills, but I only got a 28 on the PLAN last year… I didn’t study for it and I wasn’t familiar with the test at all, though, so I’d probably do better on it now. Next year, I’ll probably be taking seven (full year, or two half years, so it’s really like fourteen) college courses, and I’ve already taken 5 college level courses, although I don’t have credit for some of them because it would be ridiculously expensive. My parents are going to freak out when they have to pay my tuition for next year, though. I am so excited and worried about college and I’m pretty sure I’ll never have any friends or like anyone and I’ll be socially inept and awkward and I won’t know anything and I’ll probably die.

A lot.

catharsis being completely replaced by feelings of inadequacies. gahh!!!
if i could get into like umich, columbia, uf, or like emory i would be rather content. like dance in the streets content. yale would be nice too cuz then i would be without loans.

I guess I’m the kinda person that needs to get their thoughts in order on paper in order to legitimize their thinking process.
Sorry I screwed you guys over…):

Eh, letting it out is good for me too, Donny. That ugly stream of conscious has no place inside my brain right now. Right now I’m just going to worry about my homework.

haha bionic / too much technology would change the entire nature of warfare…
whatever ok i dont really feel like discussing, just wanted to throw in a side comment
back to work

Random thought:
Detroit is apparently the most miserable city in the U.S.
That’s exciting.

no need to donny. i just have the recurring thought that for everything i have, there is someone out there who can top me. the odds just dont seems right somehow.

lol it is in your state fridge.

I’m off to eat cookies and milk, I’ll check in when disneyguy and elmo start to prowl, usually when I’m very sleepy. Bye bye!

Cookies sound wonderful right now. Too bad I ate the last Fig Newtons earlier…

I really shouldn’t stay up as late as I have been lately. I’m pretty much dead because of it.

I blame my good friend Kwame, in part. What a mayor. No, really.
I live 30 minutes outside of Detroit. My dad works there.

Sorry to sidetrack the conversation…
