omg stop corrupting people porna.

good night to no one i guess.

I’m not corrupting them; I’m simply heightening their sense of awareness and overall leading them to a lower level of existence.

sounds like corruption to me:
destroying someone’s (or some group’s) honesty or loyalty; undermining moral integrity; “corruption of a minor”; “the big city’s subversion of rural innocence”

any corrupting influence or agency.

moral perversion; impairment of virtue and moral principles; “the luxury and corruption among the upper classes”; “moral degeneracy followed intellectual degeneration”; “its brothels, its opium parlors, its depravity”; “Rome had fallen into moral putrefaction”

hello out there!!!

Hi panic! I’m in the midst of a paper comparing and contrating /Waterland/ and /Beloved/ (I heart Waterland a lot) but I’m really not in the mood to do anything school-related…

I keep thinking about TASP, and about how interview notifications. To be honest, I would rather be rejected now than to get the ego boost of an interview and be rejected later…

Maybe you can help me with something (not related to TASP, but scheduling senior year classes)? :)

ok sure. and i havent read waterland but i adore beloved.

Scary-long post:

Okay, I have a lot of potential schedule ideas. I already know that I’m taking Honors/AP Physics, AP Calc BC, and AP Spanish…

But I need help setting up the rest of my schedule. That’s the problem with having such a large school: so many awesome classes to choose from. And my friends and brother have been no help, so I’m asking for your input:

Here are my options for English:
- Humanities 1 (1 sem), Humanities 2 (1 sem)
- Modern Lit and the Arts
- Humanities 1, Writing Center Tutor (1 sem)

Humanities is basically this amazing survey course of…well…humanities covering all of history, all the way from cave paintings to Plato to Islamic architecture to Viking mythology to may-pole dances, etc. They do EVERYTHING (but very fast) and there is this big “showcase” project that they do where they build elaborate displays of important historical…things.

Modern Lit is basically an expansion of the last two weeks of Humanities material studied in-depth. They do a lot of abstract art, art films, etc., and of course, Modern Lit (starting with Madame Bovary). They do some cool projects in abstract and modern art, study artistic and literary periods, etc. in their social contexts and such.

The writing center is basically this class where you spend part of the time tutoring/helping other students (from other classes) in revising their papers. The rest of the time you apparently have to write your own stuff/find your voice, etc. (more centered on creative writing) and the community is very tight-knit, as in 5-10 students per teacher.

Here are my options for Social Studies:
- International Relations
- Western Civilization
- Physical Anthropology (1 sem), Cultural Anthrop (1 sem)
- Physical OR Cultural Antrhop, Modern European History (1 sem)
- Modern European History, Philosophy (1 sem)
- Physical OR Cultural Anthop, Philosophy (1 sem)

These are pretty self-explanatory…
Physical Anthropology is more about the evolution of man/the archeological aspect, whereas cultural is…more cultural (horrible description).

I can basically choose any combination of 3 of the above options, without repeats, of course…almost all are honors, what do you think (based solely on the course titles, with no knowledge of the teachers, workload, etc.)?

I don’t think that I really “get” /Beloved/…like I can’t connect with the characters…I’m kind of BSing that half of the essay, unfortunately.

@wink: your school has awesome courses. if i were you, i’d take writing center. you’ll probably take a course like humanities in college, but i don’t know too many colleges that let you get 1 teacher p/ 5-10 students for any class.
you should really research the teachers. i feel like they can make or break a class, especially in social studies/humanities courses.

humanities just sounds delicious to me because i love the thought of learning even a little about everything so i can get a taste of what i like. i guess you have to think on whether you know what aspects of humanities you like to decide of you would benefit from the class. if you feel like you know firmly i want to study islamic history or something then i would to for modern lit. as for the writing class, do you see yourself writing poetry or books. do you feel like your writing could be stronger, but at the same time can you sit down and help other students get better. i guess if you have a manuscript in the making or if you enjoy prose and poetry go for it.

my knowledge of IR is that it is a bird course, but then again you cant load yourself down or you will burn out. IMHO i would take the two anthropology classes because for all the learning you can do in school, learning about other cultures and other places and their habits is a beautiful thing. ( i hate thinking im close-minded, naive, and unworldly). you would benefit the most from half a year of anthrop and the other half philosophy because it is sort of complimentary. (learning about others And their possible mindsets or mantras). western civilization is pretty much all the history they normally teach, i mean the western world gets enough attention (but by no means let me stop you.lol.)

Thanks for the advice, xphage…who are you? ![]()
I really really really want to do the writing center class; it was probably my top choice in the English section…

The problem with researching teachers is that, in a school with 6000+ students, there’s no one teacher that you’re guaranteed to get because most classes have several teachers that teach them. Some of them are amazing, others are dull, and you’re kind of stuck with what you get.

Did you apply to TASP?

Panic - you are always a great help
I think I’m starting to lean towards your suggestions…

I think I’m going to take…both semesters of humanities, the writing center class, both semesters of anthrop, and philosophy. Looking at that schedule makes me very happy (except the calculus part–but there is no avoiding that)…but I also wanted to take Modern Lit :(

cant have it all?
and i seem to have that effect on people…i should write your winkist manifesto. since you brought it up, for next year i see myself in:
AP Bio w/ lab ( the lab is a separate class that happens once a week).
AP Gov w/ honors econ
AP Comparative Gov
AP Stats
Hon Spanish 4 ( AP would eat me alive)
AP English Lit

EEEK! AP overload! And weren’t you the one who said you took your first AP class in freshman year?! I think we have a genius child on our hands…

In comparison, I will only graduate with 7 AP classes to my credit (and, like, 12 honors). I feel somewhat medicore in comparison -_-

My manifesto! I should work on that in the writing center next year…
Maybe you can ghostwrite it for me and I can take all the credit.

This is going to sound really lame…but I finally found out the ending of the last of the Animorphs series (I actually used to read those in elementary school). Apparently Rachel died, and I was like ***?! Sorry, I’m a little bit bitter.

So what’s new in your life?

it was only AP human. genius i am not, it was the only AP they give and it was taught by an amazing teacher who appreciated the level of comprehension that most of his student worked on. everyone i knew took that AP.
and i felt like i needed to fill a space so i took comparative. i think ill have 10 APs when i graduate. and im taking 4 AP’s now, might as well up the ante.

and i’ll ghostwrite only if you will finish my novelette/story ( i honestly dont know what to call it.hehe.).

The beginning of my manifesto. What d’ya think?

“Here lie the words of the Great Wink…the mighty eternal God, also known as One-Eyed Willie, although Wink is preferable, because Willie has always been sensitive about her One Eye, even though with only one eye, Wink cannot really wink because the Wink would actually be a blink…”

What is your novelette/story about?

EDIT: AP Human? We don’t have that one at my school. We have classes called “Zen and Emerson” and “American Media Studies”…but not even AP Chem. It’s kind of sad.

lol it sounds like the beginning of a morbid children’s rhyme, and it is sooo off topic.

my little project (the story is lame, very did over). this girl falls in love with her best friend, fears telling him, meets this other boy who is kind of a mystic (he totally gets her and helps her find herself), she professes her love, it blows up in her face, she figures out boy 2 likes her, feels betrayal and questions his counseling, (insert more teen drama), ideally she leaves her best friend behind moves on ( with who, to where, or any of those such details im not yet clear on).
teen romance and drama set over a summer, with some teen and family/sibling issues and bonding thrown in.

We don’t have any APs at all, so silence, privileged sycophants (SAT word of the day! It reminds me of elephants, and has no relevance to this sentence) of doom.

Animorphs rocks the sheets. I was hooked on that all through 6th and 7th grade. I still think they’re great books, and I wouldn’t mind rereading them.

I’m listening to Tiny Bubbles over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and has anyone seen The Mole?

your school sounds awesome. it has all these classes that sound amazing but at the same time not some of the common classes you would see somewhere else. it is like an alternative path of thinking.
and you dont have human geography, i guess you could call it something like your anthropology classes but also with statistics sprinkled in and geography of course.
