Telluride Association Summer Program ( TASP ) 2008

I read a little about it… Care to elaborate on the topic?

well, harry was supposedly fighting with his troops against terror in Afghanistan until a news report leaked out the info that he was there… so now he’s being pulled out to avoid being in “mortal danger”

i didn’t! tell me more!
EDIT:
oh interesting
I’m sure that annoyed him

Isn’t anyone who goes to fight in Afghanistan, by the nature of the act, placed in “mortal danger”?

It makes sense. His being there probably makes it super dangerous for anyone stationed with him, since he’d be such a high-profile target.

Matt Drudge of the web news source, “The Drudge Report,” broke the story a week ago. Pretty much every news outlet knew about the story, but they formed a pact to not air the story so as not to needlessly endanger the prince or his regiment. People are on the fence as to whether what Drudge did was journalistic integrity or a man trying to get a scoop.

yes but he is royalty. he gets more priority on his life.

I hope you’re kidding, mls.

afriad i mustt go! Good night.

heckie yeah im kidding. we went over this in the fly vs person discussion

i love how we can cite discussions.

Definitely in the eyes of enemy militants. I mean, sure, it would cause a huge surge of outrage and probably beef up foreign attacks on the insurgents, but to them, it would probably be worth it.

he’s a soldier. his job is to fight, and yes, risk death.

His job is to be a prince, first and foremost. He’s an icon of the nation, even if the power of the royalty is only symbolic.

This doesn’t directly pertain to the Prince of England, but really, how many children of modern-day political leaders are actually willing to fight for their country? Declaring war is all well and good…as long as my family has no part in it. Think about it, how many Senators have family in Iraq, or even in the military at all? I don’t think that this is purely about safety. Politicos will always manage to avoid becoming personally entangled in the warfare; we declare war, the poor working class fights it…

that is how it is. the politicians know they are wrong and that they arent doing the right thing so they dont send their kids off. just like they support issues that might pertain to them more than others. they are biased and dont care who knows it.

Very few people actually want to be in the military. A lot of people don’t think they have any other good options, others have been raised in military families and don’t really know any other way of life. Honestly, the Army is giving out $20,000 signing bonuses. Know anyone, especially lower class, who couldn’t use 20,000 bucks?

if he was a prince and icon, why did he join the military? to be able to look noble in a uniform? no offense, but thats like cheating the system - seem all heroish by fighting for your country, then pulling out when danger begins to mount.

I don’t think it was his choice to pull out. Didn’t they make him?

900th post woo!

Well, doesn’t history suggest that it’s one of the “responsibilities” (or at least an asset) of a king/prince/leader to show some expertise and earn some glory in military combat? Isn’t that part of the iconic image of a great leader, i.e. war hero?

i think that he was forcibly pulled out… but why let him join the military in the first place? to “uphold the tradition”? but then decide he ca’t handle being targeted?

yeah this is what i’ve gathered:
harry wanted to fight, but the rest of the royal family/british gov/military was skeptical cause they thought it would create unneccessary danger for him and his surrounding troops. but he was able to get through the system and into combat and everything was all well and good, besides the royal family biting their heads off bceause they didnt want him to go in the first place.
now that his status/position has been exposed, old fears are coming to light again, and he is being pressured to pull out.

D-Yu, I think all of the british royal family go to military school. i THINK. i think that william did. but not all of them go to fight in war after. william obviously didnt. but harry wanted to.
