Telluride Association Summer Program ( TASP ) 2008

^ EXACTLY how we’re all probably feeling right now. hahah ;D OH man - I agree w/ you about I am Legend. I watched it. Loved it. And then I hated it. I mean what a CRAPPY wishy-washy ending!!! Grrrr

I think i would have preferred the ending if everyone had died in the explosion. The lady actually finding a colony is tortuously ironic but at the same time too cheery. Then again I have not read the book so I could totally have it off the mark.
…Either way back to the Vietnam War, mmm historia!!!

YES. I mean, what’s the point of the whole thing if there was this huge group of people - a whole town - living the entire time?? It just de-dramatizes the whole affair…My preferred ending = Smith never meets woman, finds cure, zombie is humanized, zombie realizes she is humanized and goes whoopee for about two minutes, other zombies attack, they all die.

ick. Vietnam War. ick.

What really made me mad was that they REFERENCED the REAL ending and the real meaning of the title in the alternate ending of the movie! When Robert Neville gives the zombie girl back to the male, there’s a shot where he looks at the wall of his dead “specimens” right after the zombies are through being all human and lovey-dovey, and then back to the humanish zombies. That directly referred to the REAL ending in the book, where Robert’s captured by the vampires (zombies) because he goes around killing them during the day and becomes an urban “legend” as the last human among the vampires just like vampires were legends before; he kills during the day like they killed during the night. That’s what the title means: I Am Legend. Robert’s the “legend” because he captures the vampires (zombies in the movie) and kills them - he’s the reverse vampire (zombie).

I was so ANGRY when they referenced that and didn’t go any further with it! I love the real meaning of the title, and the fact that they brushed shoulders with it in the alternate ending BUT ONLY in a way that people who had done their research would recognize p***ed me off even more than it would have if they hadn’t touched it.

Will Smith was brilliant, though, and I think we all loved the dog. It’s not their fault that they got saddled with a movie that developed total amnesia in the third act.

Well, it’s a good thing I didn’t read the book then, because that would have made me angry too. ; ) The real ending DOES sound a lot better, hahah.

Oh man, I nearly cried when the dog died. He was my favorite character. Er. Um. Well, after Will Smith, that is, hehh

It’s a way better ending. He gets executed by the vampires. That book basically created the concept of zombies as the result of a disease instead of voodoo zombies (of course, the author was writing about VAMPIRES, not zombies, but the concept jumped ship when George Romero stole it to make Night of the Living Dead). Of course, there was no Samantha (the dog) in the book.

Hmph - no Sam? Well then. I might not read the book after all. : ) Just kidding. I am intrigued. I shall have to look into this more.

Mihan, is it your spring break too? I can’t help wondering as I type this out at 1:56 a.m. on a Wednesday morning. (I’m doing the work that I diligently avoided for the first half of break)

…Meeeooowww…

I think it’s more of a blessing than a curse that the TASP-08-hopefuls of CC don’t have nearly the same rapport that the 07ers did, but…it would be nice to have other people posting about the same anxieties. I just reread my essays (partly out of the legitimate white-girl-applying-to-a-selective-place neuroticism, and partly to avoid SAT prep), and I found 2 typos that I’d never seen before. That was not reassuring.

12 days, my lovely competitors. Put your heads between your knees and do the Hokey Pokey of Death.

Oh, karananhra, I unearthed about… seven typos while prepping for my interview. Which is really weird because I’m a neurotic proofreadingwhore. I think it’s because I made so many last minute changes on the submit form itself. But anyway, I wanted to die…

Twelve days? Yikes. That also means I need to start studying for my APs. Whimper. Cry.

Spring Break? You mean that thing we had during the third week of March when it was still sub-freezing weather? Nah. ; ) I just have mad procrastinating skills. Luckily, I am DONE with the SATs and will not have to look at another standardized test until atleast four years from now. Our next day off is…Memorial Day!! YAY!! I’m booked all the way upto the second week of June - I don’t know how I’m going to survive…but eh. It’ll work itself out, hopefully.

End of April = Birthday, Prom, Orchestra concert, Tennis craziness and also TASP and NFA notifications. YIKES.

Oh, those AP things? I have to learn all of AP Psych within three weeks. Not going to happen. Probably just end up skimming the whole Barrons thing two days before and praying the all day the day before hahah. And then I gotta review for physics and econ. Crap. That’s little very un-Asian-but-nonetheless-asian girl speaking there.

Ha! I go to one of the oh, maybe three decent NYS schools that has no APs whatsoever because we continue to stick stubbornly with an archaic program with frickin’ Syracuse University, so yeah! I’m totally screwed over for ever getting into my dream school, but yeah! anyway. Hoorah for a public school where only one person that I know of is going to a Top 20 school (and that person’s black, male and a National Merit Scholar)!

You know you go to public school when…
English Teacher: Class, I think some of you should take this exam I found out about. Apparently there’s something called an AP exam…
(real summary of the only reason that I’ll be taking one AP exam this year and one alone, with absolutely no preparation whatsoever but lots of essay-writing. It’s not an AP class; us taking the exam was all his idea, and we all have to pay up.)

So, I am legend has been ruined for me…lol

Yeah, tennis season is killing me…We’ve had seven consecutive matches O_O

dayummmm APs soon. I think I’m okay though…except English Language, kinda screwed =/

Sorry. It had to be done. Now you can watch it without getting quite so infuriated due to the crappy third act.

Silly tennis; that’s why you should run track like me! It is truly the CC sport. Seriously, if you look around, SO MANY CCers run track, cross-country, or both. I suppose that’s because it’s not exactly the jockiest or most exclusive (i.e. there’s either no tryouts at all or very few cuts at most schools) of sports.

GO TENNIS!! Three years and still stuck on JV. I was up for varsity this year but this freshman prodigy just moved from Cali. I lost 7-5 and now I’m back in JV. UGH. Well, our tennis team has no cuts either, so about half of the seniors (okay, fine, not half, but you know, like 30, which is a still a large number) do tennis just to get out of PE - they come for the first week and then don’t turn up for any of the practices.

On a happier note, I just got a perfect score on my philosophy exam over free will!! WOOT! Yeah, man, this is what I’m talkin’ about! :D

thanks panicpower. i think my reason for switching is interesting enough that people may forgive me for jumping ship from the wildly popular cornell ii ;0

i really wish that my interview would hurry up and happen already. it’s tomorrow and i keep popping between this window and the notebook with my prep in it. it’s almost a compulsion

oo what’s the reason philoglossia?

It’s so weird to think that they’re going to be deciding our fates this weekend. It’s weirder that there’s like 3 people on CC that have their interviews tomorrow, a day before they decide. I think I’m going to spend the entire weekend trying to telepathically beam an aura of good TASPness to my application.

yeah it’s really weird to imagine them talking about your application and your person in every detail, at least for me. So even if one makes it, you don’t know whether you barely made it under the wire or why they choose you in particular or moreover, why not. I think I’ll build a little shrine with a tasp idol and sacrifice to the angry tasp god. But what does he want ? Maybe Our ardent hope or crushed dreams?
I’ll just go with things all the ghosts and spirits around the world seem to love, tobacco and booze ;)

Phew, a major fundraiser at our school that I was one of the organizers for is over as of today. We raised over $11,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society.

Between now and TASP acceptances (or should I say rejections) I have provincials for debate, student government copres elections, and mock exams for IB courses.

aaaaah
