Telluride Association Summer Program ( TASP ) 2008

09910745, you may not have noticed, but we successfully dropped the mudslinging on the last page. Kindly refer to it and attempt to speak to us as though we were human beings instead of Americans.

(groan) Pa-NIC. My fragile 11-days-to-decisions nerves are not in any shape for CC’s 5000th unsolvable AA debate.

Just asking. Like always, no need to become offensive.

LOL. Fine, fine. Anyway counting down will drive you mad. You will run out of your house screaming for someone to stop the unending counting down of the TASP clock.

Of course it made sense! Today, though, its totally erroneous. Affirmative Action should be based on economic status and not simpy skin colour.

So how many AP exams are people taking? I’m thinking I should totally be studying for those as they start in 2.5 weeks, but w.e.

Panic: “‘But I don’t want to go among mad people,’ Alice remarked.
‘Oh, you can’t help that,’ said the Cat. ‘We’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad.’
‘How do you know I’m mad?’ said Alice.
'You must be,” said the Cat. ‘or you wouldn’t have come here.’”

-Best Alice in Wonderland quote ever

I have four AP exams and I’ve only been doing the reviews that my teachers give out. I have never bought a single review book and do not plan to start, come what may.

Economically based financial aid is my best friend.

crazy people fine, people who argue like they would rather have swords in hand…just a bit scary. :P

Yeah, I have 7! Its really retared. I have only 2 the first week, but 5 back during the second.

::bows down to the pure insanity of 09910745::

(raises hand) If it helps balance it out? I have one AP exam and no AP courses to be found. And entirely unwillingly (my school clings to an archaic program called Syracuse University Project Advance, where we take college courses and that colleges have never heard of). My Advanced English class is the first to take the AP Lit exam, entirely on the whim of our awesome teacher and entirely without help from the school board.

Oh yeah! I read about that somewhere in the thread…Are the classes weighted? Where is your school?

that does assuage my fears. for a minute there i was beginning to think i was way behind on the game.

But frankly, I dont understand why everyone huffs and puffs so much about AP exams. I mean, taking 7 AP exams is really no different stress-wise than taking 7 semester finals

Sort of. The weights don’t make much difference (it’s 0-100 GPA, not 4.0 or 3.0 or whatever. We get 2 points for that class’s average only if it’s a SUPA or advanced course). Our tracks were determined in 7th grade by 1 exam (which I knew nothing of until the end of 9th grade, so I had to fight tooth and nail to get into our very-limited Advanced Math track. I hate track systems with the firey passion of a thousand burning suns.)

My school is in an area where most students have never heard of APs and NO ONE (not even my English teacher) has heard of TASP. I had to give him the TASP brochure and explain what it was before he’d write my recommendation, and in the rec he called it, “Your program”.

But yeah, panic, I’m going to make sure next year that my guidance counselor emphasizes the h*** out of the fact that the reason I don’t have APs on my transcript is because they don’t exist at our school.

i find all standardized testing worry inducing and stressful, even though i do well on them.

Yeah. I really dont like the SAT. The ACT though is a lot easier for me.

My SAT was dismal. I rocked the PSAT then underestimated the SAT so…not 2100+ for me. i’ve got 3 AP Exams (Chem, Eng. Lang. and US History). we multiply 1.1 to our AP grade, which really impacts the GPA. 09910745, where do you live? like…what country/state/city?

09910745, you need a nickname. One that doesn’t require double-checking what we type to make sure we got it right each time.

best thing about APs (in my school, anyway) is that we don’t have to go to class for the following month and a half for those periods. It makes all the cramming and tough grades and suffering sooo worth it.
I’m taking chem, english lang/comp, physics C, US history, and calc BC
this is going to be a very. fun. break.
(we get a break because of a very high jewish population at our school, so we split our spring break to accomodate both easter and passover)
