Now, off to do some A.P. Human Geo. homework…who am I kidding, It’ll be at least an hour before I get my lazy bum to do anything.

hudson: you have human?? i loved that class!

hey i know i’m joining this about 69 pages late…
lol but i applied to TASP this year too and I’m so glad I wasn’t the only one who procrastinated on the essays…I mean, I’ve known about it for months, but IB kinda ties up your free time. -_-

Anyway, I just kinda had a mini panic-attack when I read about PSAT scores but remembered its in my transcripts.

I was hoping to get input from any of you on my essays, which were the following:

Critnal: How Uglies by Scott Westerfield is a satire of the American society’s desire for perfect looks

Problem of Interest: When doctors are overassertive and underassertive in patient care, which results in patients’ future complications…like, when should they be either/or ? Because sometimes patients don’t care about their problem, they want to relieve immediate pain and forget everything else…which is just as detrimental as being over/underassertive as a doctor.

Conflict: Dealing with misunderstandings in leadership positions in school (oh god…lmao)

Future Plans: I’m gonna be a cardiovascular surgeon or perhaps cardiothoracic surgeon after getting a degree in Chemical Bio or Biochemistry, depending on the school. <3 TASP lol

Seminar Thing: Cornell 2, U Mich, UT, Cornell 1

Book List: Jane Eyre, Catch-22, Macbeth, Pride and Prejudice, Uglies, Pretties, Harry Potter 7, Scarlet Letter, Their Eyes Were Watching God, Huck Finn, 1984, House of the Spirits, The Things They Carried, The Alchemist, Cry The Beloved Country, Small Wonder, High Tide in Tucson, Complications: A Surgeon’s Notes on an Imperfect Science

I realized that if I was applying online I had needed to have my recommendations sent a week before i found that out, so I had to write my essays in two days and then rush to school to pick up my recs and send it in the mail to get it postmarked with that day’s date to meet the postmark deadline. -_- It was exhilarating. I’m never doing it again though… lol

Anyone else in IB?

Yeah, I look forward to the class as i sit through Spanish AP. It’s one of my few Junior classes that I took because I thought it would be fun, not just cause it said A.P. next to it. None the less, the amount of homework my teach gives cripples my writing hand.

seriously i had that ap in ninth it was great. and i got a 4 on the ap too.

NINTH!? AS in your first year of high school!? Oh know, here I was thinking I even had a chance to get into TASP when there are geniuses like you who start taking AP’s when they were, like, what, twelve!? Seriously, I’m in awe of your sheer awesomeness. I took my first AP in tenth, which was AP World History, and even though it was my only one, I barely scratched out a three! Bye kids, this little boy is about to go cry him self to sleep…just as soon as he finishes his damn homework.

hudson: stop! seriously. it was the only ap they let us take in ninth. and i only took one ap in tenth too, it wasnt world history though ( it wasnt ap that year) it was psych. my psych teacher was such a push over.lol. and genius my foot. im soo far down the todum (sp) pole its not even funny. lol

finished my essay 2 hours before the online deadline… ahh!
but i’m proud of myself- i didn’t stab myself in the foot this time by not even applying. and i didn’t dissapoint mr elkins. so there.

i would kill to read someone’s essay… i might even be persuaded to trade.

So, I’d really like to be at the UTexas TASP right now…during the warm Texas summer…

It’s -17 degrees F outside, with a -35 degree wind chill. And I hate it.

mmm, yes- one more thing. i want to fill one of these out:

critnal- copy pasted an old essay analyzing freddy douglass’s autobiography after i realized that my essay on metric’s “succexy” was crapshoot.

conflict- identity, the oreo factor, and how labels determine how you fit into the world

future plans: talked about higher education. also talked about how i’m using computer programming as a crutch plan.

problem essay: beauty, a la uglies. and about how i’m not bitter about my supposedly “bad hand”, because nature has this crazy way of preserving a balance. i was careful not to be disneyfied about it. ;-)

seminars- ut, cornell 1, cornell 2, michigan.

Book List: anthem, specials, so yesterday, candyfreak, Uglies, Pretties, Scarlet Letter, Their Eyes Were Watching God, Huck Finn, 1984, narrative of the life of frederick douglass, good in bed (don’t judge me), …

i live near houston, but the weather is still ultra crappy right now, disneyguy.

I resent that. (See sn)

And forgive me for being stupid, but what is the oreo factor?

^ You know, chocolate on the outside but vanilla on the inside ;)

Of course, in my neck of the woods, I hear more about coconuts and bananas than oreos!

Haha, it seems a lot of us included Scarlett Letter, The Great Gatsby and Huck Finn. =] That AP English for ya.

Anyhow, I wish I had included more books on my list. Out of my list there’s two I read for school, two periodicals, Harry Potter (<3 series), a book of short stories and a pseudo-science book I included on a whim. If I have to talk about them there’s not going to me a whole lot to choose from. Ah well.

^^ lol. we’re “reading” Huck Finn in AP English right now. “reading” as in looking on Sparknotes because nobody likes the book

I don’t know. By what all the former TASSers were saying, it seems the book list isn’t what they interview you on, it’s your essays.
If you don’t mind me asking, what periodicals did you put down? I was going to put one down, MAKE magazine, but I unsubscribed recently, so voted against it.

oh, uh, me too

seriously they will ask you mostly on your conflict, issue and critical essays. the others are considered but they probably wont make it the focus of your interview…if you make it there.

im funny with magazines i had: newsweek, seventeen, GQ, an something else i dont remember at this time. lol.
